Screening.
□ Took the PRAXIS II test (for Elementary
candidates only) before the student
teaching semester but not necessarily
before applying for student teaching. A
score of 151 or higher is required for
tests 0011/5011 and a score of 142 or
higher is required for the 0014/5014 test.
Students may take either test; only one
test is required.
□ Approved by the Education
Department. Candidates who are not
approved by the Education Department
will be reviewed by the TEC.
Students must be approved for Gateway 4 before
a student teaching placement will be made.
Students will be notified of their Gateway 4
status.
Students must pay close attention to the dates for
the required student teaching application
meeting and deadlines. For fall student teaching,
application meetings are conducted during the
first week in October. For spring student
teaching, application meetings are conducted in
the first week of February.
A late fee of $100 will be assessed for students
who apply up to two weeks after the deadline;
students who apply more than two weeks
through four weeks after the deadline will be
assessed a late fee of $175. Candidates who apply
more than four weeks (30 calendar days) after
the deadline will be assessed a fee of $300. In the
event of a late application, the department cannot
guarantee that a placement will be possible. Late
fees may be waived in the event of an
incapacitating illness (supported by a doctor’s
statement) or other life altering event (with
adequate documentation).
Candidates may not student teach in their
hometown district or district of employment or
where their children or other close relatives
attend/work. Placements are restricted to an
area within 35 miles of the Indianola College
