Art, music, health, and physical education students complete a full semester (15 weeks)<br />

of full-time student teaching. Candidates must be in the schools (at a minimum) for regular<br />

teacher contract hours. Student teachers are strongly encouraged to eliminate or greatly reduce<br />

all jobs, course work, or extra curricular activities.<br />

Educ 388 Student Teaching at the Secondary Level (15-25 cr)<br />

Fall, Spring, May<br />

Educ 389 Student Teaching Seminar (1 cr) Fall and Spring<br />

Art, music, physical education, and health students are required to meet several state<br />

mandated liberal arts courses. Those courses include:<br />

English Composition (Eng 108 is recommended; Eng 106 or 204 are options)<br />

One Science Course (any science is acceptable; a lab is not required)<br />

Math Proficiency<br />

Math 105 or higher level course, Math 105 or higher CLEP exam, or the Math<br />

Proficiency Exam available through Hawley Academic Resource Center (ask for<br />

the exam to be placed on your transcript)<br />

Humanities and Social Science (three courses from three different departments)<br />

History, English, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Sociology, Political<br />

Science, Religion, Philosophy, Economics<br />

The chart on the following page illustrates a typical sequence for art, music, physical<br />

education, and health students. This sequence represents a typical path for a student who begins<br />

in the <strong>Teacher</strong> <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Program</strong> in his/her first year at <strong>Simpson</strong>. There are a variety of<br />

scheduling options available to students. Meet with your dual education advisor, early in your<br />

program, to create a plan which outlines a likely schedule for your courses.<br />
