Team recaps
Boys Basketball: The boys’ basketball team traveled to Cascade last Friday. After a very hotly contested
first half which saw the Plugs trail by two, the second half turned out differently as Speedway gave up twelve
offensive rebounds and were outscored from the free throw line by fourteen in falling by a score of 78-58.
Justin Brent led the Plugs with fifteen points and snatched seven rebounds. Senior Dorian Outlaw threw in
twelve points, followed by Austin Anglea with nine points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals, and
Anthony Jones chipped in nine points. A fine defensive effort by Casey Anderson held Cascade’s leading
scorer to only two field goals, but it was not enough. The Plugs will be on the road this Friday versus
Covenant Christian.
Girls Basketball: The girls basketball team took on the Cascade Cadets this past Saturday at Morris Pollard
gymnasium. Cascade jumped out to an early lead but the Plugs battled back. Down only 3 after the first
quarter, the ladies went back and forth, trading baskets and playing no defense. At the half Speedway trailed
by 11. The third quarter saw Speedway cut the deficit to 6 but no closer. Ultimately the size of Cascade wore
down the Sparkplugs as they fell 81-66 to Cascade. The Plugs were led by senior JoJo Daghe with 22 points,
while junior Bailey Smith added 19. Junior Tiffani Adkins cleaned the glass with 11 rebounds. The Sparkplugs
will see Cascade again in the first round of sectionals.
Wrestling: This past weekend the wrestling team placed 8th out of 13 teams at the Indianapolis
Washington sectional. The following individuals placed for the Sparkplugs: 6th place finish goes to Nick
Smith, 5th place finish goes to Carl Dilworth. Placing 4th and advancing to next weeks Regional
competition at Perry Meridian High: 113 lb Cole Craney, 126 lb Robby Sears, and 145 lb Kevin Lonzo.
Placing 3rd for the Sparkplugs Heavyweight Jared Schall. Congratulations Wrestlers!!
IHsaa tip of the week
"Promoting education-based athletics in Indiana"
If your sport was taken away from you today because of an injury or being cut
from a team, would you still be a quality person that your family and school would
be proud of? Would you still try to excel in the classroom?
Hopefully your answer would be a big "YES!"
Don't let a sport determine who you are as a person. Let that be determined by
your morals, behavior, work ethic and attitude. Remember, in almost all cases,
sports will be a short term experience. However, a good education will benefit
you for a lifetime.
