Corporate Support How local businesses can support their local Hospice There are many ways in which your company can make a real difference. Our fundraising team is available to explore mutually beneficial ideas including the opportunity to raise your company’s profile in the community with positive local exposure, staff participation, team activities and much more. Charity of the year Choosing St Elizabeth Hospice as your Charity of the Year provides a unique opportunity to support us. Working alongside our fundraising team we can help and guide you through a programme of company led events throughout the year. Corporate ambassadors Why not become a corporate ambassador and spread the word about St Elizabeth Hospice to local businesses and organisations. Payroll giving Provide your employees with the option to make a regular donation straight from their salary. Payroll giving is a tax effective way to donate; therefore it costs the employee less and is easy to set up within your own payroll system. Organise an event to benefit St Elizabeth Hospice Is your company organising a Christmas party, ball or other festive occasion? Staff at the firm, which is based in Neale Street, nominated the Hospice as their charity of the year for the third time in a row and presented the Hospice with a cheque for £5,088.75 which had been raised over the last two years. Throughout the year each driver donates a small amount from their wages every week to charity. • Kersey Mill and thebestofipswich held a Soul and Motown night at Kersey Mill which featured live soul artist Ian Saunders and all proceeds were donated to St Elizabeth Hospice. • Staff from Hays in Ipswich raised over £2,500 through the Hays Helpers initiative which involved consultants working for local companies and asking for the equivalent of a day’s wages to be donated to the Hospice in return. Another group of consultants took part in the Great Xscape event where teams were blindfolded, driven to an unknown destination and then told to find their own way back to The Maybush at Waldringfield. • A group of brave daredevils from Haven Power took part in a sky dive in April to raise money for the Hospice. The Hays team at the Great Xscape In August a team of ten from SOS HR took part in the Three Peaks Challenge. Teams must scale Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, the three highest mountains in the UK, in 24 hours. Haven Power 10 St Elizabeth Hospice news Autumn 2009
Community Fundraising Update Friends Groups A Friends Group is a dedicated team of volunteers who get together on a regular basis to have fun whilst at the same time raising funds for us and building awareness of the Hospice in their local area. We currently have well established friends groups in Woodbridge, Eye and Felixstowe. Joining a group is a chance to meet like-minded people, learn new skills and make a big difference to your local community. Friends groups are great for individuals who want to do something but not on their own. The groups can be as formal or informal as the people involved wish them to be and all are extremely sociable. Working as volunteers, the groups organise their own events and activities, supported by the Hospice fundraising team. They have Woodbridge Friends arranged many successful events including coffee mornings, quiz nights, carol singing, fashion shows and much more. Friends Groups also organise public collections in supermarkets or town centres, place and maintain collection pots in the community such as local shops and pubs and circulate leaflets and posters. For example: In March, Felixstowe Friends held a collection at Solar and along Hamilton Road in Felixstowe raising £893.54. They also held a coffee morning at the Trinity Methodist Church Hall which featured a raffle and book and crafts sale as well as serving tea, coffee and cakes. A group of ladies from Felixstowe Friends also took part in the Midnight Walk in May. Eye and district Friends held a summer hog roast and later in the year a Japanese meal party with food produced by local Eye resident Kyoko Read. They also organised an illustrated talk by Roy Lancaster which raised £1,500. Roy has lectured around the world and featured on Gardeners' World and is a regular panelist on BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time. Last year Woodbridge Friends organised open gardens in Woodbridge which included ten open gardens throughout the centre of the town and raised £3,000. A Bach to Beatles music evening performed by the Ipswich Gilbert and Sullivan Society raised over £800 and Chairperson Anne Barratt took part in the abseil off Ipswich Hospital maternity block earlier this year to celebrate her birthday. Felixstowe Friends Eye and district Friends hog roast event Large events in the community Pin badges Pin badges that feature the Hospice logo are now available for the donation of £1 in all Hospice shops and reception areas. They will also be sold in other retail outlets around the region. If you would like a box to sell at an event you are organising or to sell in your shop or business, please contact us. Each year committees fundraise in the local community and year on year decide to raise money for the Hospice. Kesgrave Music Festival is organised in memory of Kate Moyes who died at the Hospice in 2005. This year is the fourth year the festival has taken place. £13,000 was donated from the 2009 event, bringing the total raised for the Hospice to over £50,000. The Ufford Bygones and Fun Day have been fundraising for the Hospice since 2004. Last year the event raised £8,000 so with a similar amount from 2009, this should bring the total to over £30,000. Hacheston Bygone Rally and Hachfest raise money for the Hospice and three other charities and have been fundraising as a committee since 2001. Hachfest continues to grow in popularity and had another successful year in 2009. This year the fair will be held on Thursday 19th November 9.30am - 3.30pm at the Stoke by Nayland Golf and Country Club. As part of the fundraising team’s relationship with these committees, we attend meetings and provide support with fundraising along the way.
