The European Theatre Convention would like to thank the Bad Hersfelder Festival and the ETC
partner theatres for their collaboration and the unique opportunity they provided for the young
people.

I- THE PROJECT
The International Theatre Youth Forum: an initiative of the Bad Hersfelder Festival under
the patronage of the European Theatre Convention (ETC), questions those citizens about
their European future, who will be shaping it: Young people between 16 and 20 years. In
2012, the Youth Forum collaborated with the following ETC member theatres to welcome
51 young people from 7 countries:

> Théâtre de la Place, Liège, Belgium
> THOC, Nicosia, Cyprus
> De Toneelmakerij, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
> Teatro Metastasio di Prato, Italy
> Teatrul National Timisoara, Romania
> Bad Hersfeld is twined with the city of Sumperk (Czech Republic) 5
young people from Sumperk participated in the Youth Forum

IV - REWARD LAND DER IDEEN
Best initiative of the year in Germany (Culture category)
In 2012, the project Europolis 2050 has been awarded one of the three best
initiative of the year in the category « Culture » by the jury of « Germany-Land
der Ideen ».
The price was awarded after the 2012 performance to Holk Freytag, the artistic
director of the Bad Hersfelder Festpiele, initiator of the project Europolis 2050.

V- BAD HERSFELDER FESTIVAL
When the conversation turns to open-air theatre in Germany, the Bad Hersfelder Festival is certainly
among the first to come to mind. Its high artistic standard and unique festival venue in the ruin of a
12th-century church – Europe’s largest Romanesque church ruin – make for an unparalleled theatre
experience. The specific theatrical character of the venue is even more impressive than that of
Salzburg's famous Felsenreitschule or the Papal Palace in Avignon. The international exchange
program EUROPOLIS 2050 is shown in a reconstructed factory building with state-of-the-art
technical equipment alongside the popular performances in the historic setting of the church ruin. See

renovated and equipped to
welcome theatre performances.
The public performance of the 3 rd
International Theatre Youth Forum
was presented in the Schilde-
Halle to 200 people.
The young people had the chance
to attend the concert « The Songs
of Europe » as part of the festival
programm.

THE STREET PERFORMANCE
One day before the performance the young people went through the streets of Bad Hersfeld
to adverstise their performance and distribute flyers.

October : Call for partners and participants
December: Final selection of the participating theatres by the ETC
January - February: 1 st introduction emails to the participating theatres – Choice of group leaders
and young people by participating ETC theatres
March : Preparation of the working schedule, excursions, extra activities, collect information about
the participants, important documents (code of conducts, health insurance, food questionnaire),
booking of hotels in collaboration with ETC and Bad Hersfelder Festival
April : Conference call between group leaders, artistic team and project coordinators organized by
ETC
May : Opening of the ETC Youth Forum Facebook group to gather all the participants, first
assignements given by the artistic team to the participants of the Youth Forum
June: Finalization of the coordination on-site: organization of the opening, workshops, excursions,
farewell party, transfers
July: Reporting

VIII – ETC YOUNG AMBASSADOR AWARD
At the end of the 3 rd International Theatre Youth Forum, all participants have been
awarded for their sucessful participation ETC YOUNG AMBASSADOR and received a
certificate signed by the ETC General Secretary, Heidi Wiley and the Bad Hersfelder
Festival director, Holk Freytag.

this week / I met people i will never forget. When I arrived I wasn't very confident and all here
