The <strong>European</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> <strong>Convention</strong> would like to thank the Bad Hersfelder Festpiele and the ETC partner<br />

theatres for their collaboration and the unique opportunity they provided for the young people.<br />

1. The project : EUROPOLIS 2050 - <strong>Theatre</strong> Youth Forum: Stage your <strong>European</strong> Dream<br />

The project has been initiated by the Bad Hersfelder Festpiele under the patronage of the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> <strong>Convention</strong>.<br />

The idea was to gather over 50 Young People from five <strong>European</strong> and neighboring to work together with theatre<br />

directors and professionals to stage a performance around the theme: „Europe in 40 years“ from June 12 to 20, 2010 as<br />

part of the Bad Hersfelder Festival. The <strong>presentation</strong> of the working result – the performance – launched the opening of<br />

the new theatre building, a former factory hall (Schilde Halle).<br />

Preparation of the Youth Forum<br />

The <strong>European</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> <strong>Convention</strong> installed a google group on April 29 th 2010 so that every participant could interact<br />

with each other, share documents, video, music, before the Youth Forum started.<br />

The google group allowed Katja Heiser (the artistic director) to be in contact with the young people and to prepare the<br />

Youth Forum together with the participants. They had the opportunity to exchange personal information such as favourite<br />

songs or favourite poems in order to feed into the workshops.<br />

Street performance in Bad Hersfeld on Saturday 19 th of June 2010 to advertise the performance on Sunday.<br />

Theme : typical walk of each nationality. 150 flyers distributed.<br />

Performance at The Schilde Halle on Sunday 20 th of June 2010 at 11.00am<br />

A huge old industrial hall (former Babcock-Hall).<br />

150 people attended the performance<br />

Beeindruckende Darbietung des Jugendforums<br />

Bad Hersfeld. „Dobar dan“, „Shalom“, „Welcome“, „Guten Tag“, „Hyvää Päivää“ – gleich zu Beginn der Matinee des Internationalen<br />

Jugendforums wurden die Besucher mit babylonischem Sprachgewirr begrüßt. Kein Wunder, bei einer Darbietung von Jugendlichen aus<br />

fünf verschiedenen Nationen. Eine Woche lang hatten sich die 40 Jugendlichen im Rahmen des 1. Internationalen Jugendforums der Bad<br />

Hersfelder Festspiele Gedanken zur Zukunft Europas gemacht, die sie am Sonntagvormittag einem beeindruckten Publikum präsentierten.<br />

Zunächst einmal wurden aber die verschiedenen Klischees der einzelnen Länder parodiert. So wird Kroatien offenbar nur von Greisen<br />

bewohnt, die gerne in der Sonne herumsitzen, während die Engländer stets fröhlich Tee trinken, obwohl es dauernd regnet. Behäbig<br />

bratwurst-gesättigt präsentierten sich die Deutschen, energiegeladen und zynisch die Israelis, nordisch-depressiv die Finnen.<br />

Zentrales Thema der Präsentation war „Kommunikation“. In humorvollen Szenen zeigten die Jugendlichen, wie sich Europa mit Handy und<br />

Internet immer mehr vernetzt, während Sprachbarrieren wie auch die Mentalitätsunterschiede sicher weiter bestehen werden. Dass die<br />

Jugendlichen der Internet-Generation keine Verständigungsprobleme kannten, zeigte sich hingegen schnell. Und schließlich kam auch die<br />

Musik als universelles Kommunikationsmittel zum Tragen: Durch Trommeln auf Rohre und Metallpfeiler brachten die Jugendlichen die<br />

Schilde-Halle lautstark zum Klingen. Gekonnt wurden anschließend die Zukunftswünsche und -sorgen dargeboten, von „Love & Peace“ bis<br />

zu „Im Jahr 2012 werden wir alle sterben“ reichte die Bandbreite. Und einer brachte schließlich auch seine Hoffnung zum Ausdruck, dass<br />

Deutschland Fußball-Weltmeister wird – da steht der Völkerverständigung wohl nichts mehr im Wege. (jpl)<br />
