senior girls’ music concert
There were some fantastic displays of
musical ability during the Senior Girls’
Music Concert last week. I was so proud of the
girls. Particular highlights for me were the orchestra
performing ‘La Rejouissance’, ‘Highway Blues’ from
the Jazz Band and a lovely vocal solo from India
Boulton. I would like to take this opportunity to say
many thanks to all our peripatetic teachers, and
especially to Miss Scadding.
Class 6/Remove Disco: The Dining Room at Northcote
Lodge was transformed last Friday night into an amazing
disco with throbbing music and flashing lights that would
rival any West End club! The Class 7 girls and Remove
boys had a great time and it was an evening enjoyed by
all. Many thanks go to all the Class 7 mothers who kindly
hosted tea for each class before this long-anticipated event
and to all those who helped during the evening.
Shoeboxes: Please don’t forget to bring your shoebox
into school next Wednesday. Tips for what to put
inside can be found on the very helpful website: www.
operationchristmaschild.org.uk. The shoeboxes are being
collected on Thursday 22 November.
Lower School Carol Service: The Lower School is looking
for more volunteers to help with the creche during the Lower
School Carol Service. If you are able to help do please
contact Caroline Bewes on cebewes@btinternet.com.
note from the head
I’m afraid I have to report another spate of bicycle thefts
from the grounds of the Upper School. We are urgently
addressing this problem, but in the meantime I would ask
that no bicycles are left on the premises overnight or
over the weekend unless they are firmly secured. We do
have immovable bike racks down by the flagpole.
wow winners
Well done to Class
7N who walked or
cycled to and from
school the most
from Monday 29
October to Friday
2 November. They
walked or cycled for
almost every journey
and thoroughly
deserved to be our
competition winners.
This week I am delighted to announce that my
Headmistress Award goes to Maddie Boyce for
an excellent story, ‘The Key’. Her story was full
of wonderful descriptions and her punctuation
was practically faultless.
Thomas’ U10 Netball Tournament: On Saturday the
Class 5A team played in the annual Thomas’s Netball
the girls played really
well and won four of their
matches. Annika Mylne
was awarded Broomwood
player of the day, and
special mention must go to
Mimi Snell. Thank you so
much for the wonderful support from all the parents, and to
Miss Kelly for all the excellent coaching.
Music Assembly: Please join us to hear performances from
pupils from all sites in the Hall on Friday 23 November at
8.30. The concert will feature a wide range of instruments
including trumpet, cello, piano, vocal solos and duets.
Microjazz Masterclass: We are very lucky to have
Christopher Norton (composer of the microjazz series)
coming to give us a masterclass on jazz and improvisation.
Pupils from the Upper School and Northcote Lodge will
have the chance to perform pieces to him and work on
their improvisation skills. At the end of the masterclass
‘Microjazz’ music books will be available to purchase for all
instruments. (Most books will be priced at £8.99 or £9.99.)
The children love learning this music as it is rhythmically
exciting and always impresses their friends. The duet books
are particularly popular as it makes learning an instrument
a sociable activity – a great Christmas present, perhaps?
Parents are most welcome to attend this event.
Rehearsals for the Class 5 Christmas play, ‘Sam’s Three
Wishes’ are going really well, and Miss Owen and I are
delighted by the hard work every girl is putting into her
performance. I would like to remind all Class 5 girls that
lines need to be learnt in preparation for our final week
of rehearsals next week; please remember to take your
scripts home with you for the Long Weekend so you can
practise with family members or in front of the mirror!
Miss Natalie Keane – Head of Drama
class 6 bicycle training
We are running a four day cycle training course for Class 6
from Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 November. This will be run by
Wandsworth Council’s approved cycle training instructors,
and pupils taking part must be able to ride a bike. They will be
expected to bring a roadworthy bike, a bike lock and wear a
cycle helmet. We have one space still available for this course.
If you are interested in your daughter taking part do contact
me as soon as possible on p.powell@northwoodschools.com.
Please note that no bike should be left on the premises at the
end of the day unless firmly secured to an immovable object
(see Note from the Head above).
