STABLE STORY
Question: What do angels, stars, wise men, animals, kings, soldiers, shepherds, h Mary and Joseph all have in common?
Right now any child in Class 1 would know the answer to that question, as they have been rehearsing and performing
their Nativity, Stable Story, to their parents and the school this week. It was a spectacle of song, colour, sparkle and hay
in the true tradition of Christmas. The children have had as much fun and enjoyment in presenting their play as I am sure
the audiences have had in watching it. We will feel sad seeing the costumes packed away and the stage dismantled –
but then there is next year to look forward to when we will do it all over again! Now what could we do to top this year I
wonder? It will be a diffi cult task.

NOTES FROM THE HEAD
Carol service: We are all looking forward to the annual
Carol Service at 2.30 on Tuesday 11 December at St
Leonard’s Church. A letter went home earlier this week
with all the details and we look forward to seeing as many
parents as possible for this truly wonderful event.
Thursday 13 December: Just a reminder that it is a 12.00
pick up (11.45 for siblings at the other sites).
Holiday jobs: Please use the Christmas break to ensure
all uniform is named and in good condition. May I take
this opportunity to wish you and your family a very happy
and peaceful Christmas and I look forward to welcoming
everyone back for the Hilary term on Wednesday 9
January 2013!

PA NEWS
Toy Fair: Thank you to everyone who took the time to
sort through their cupboards and bookshelves; we had a
wonderful array of toys and books! A huge thanks to the
Class 2 reps, Stephanie Cox and Caroline Human, who did
an amazing job of organising the event and all the Class
2 mothers who assisted them with sorting, cleaning and
helping the children on the day to fi nd something special
for their loved ones.
Carol Service Church Crèche: You will have received
information this week about a crèche the PA are running
at St Leonard’s during the Carol Service this year. We
would encourage you to make use of this service for
younger siblings and all the details are contained in the
note that has been sent home. If successful, we will look at
replicating the idea for all the major church services during
the school year.
Christmas Cards: The Christmas cards designed by the
children have been sent home in backpacks this week.

Second hand Sale: New Year – Nearly New Clothes!
Refresh your child’s uniform for 2013 with the second
hand sale on Tuesday 15 January from 2.30 - 4.00 in the
Hall at 50 Nightingale Lane. Uniform may be left at GR on
Friday 11 January or before 10.00 on Monday 14 January.
This sale will be summer and winter uniform. For more

On Thursday 6
December we had
the annual toy fair.
There was no sign
of a recession and
shoppers were out
in force looking for
bargains, which
were abundant.

SPORT
Broomwood Hall U8 Netball
Tournament: On Friday 2 December
we had the pleasure of hosting
the Broomwood Hall U8 Netball
Tournament. We had three visiting
teams: Finton House, Hornsby
House and Broomwood Hall
Nightingale Lane. Finton House took
home the cup once again this year
with two wins and a draw. Hornsby
House was second, Garrad’s Road
third and Nightingale Lane fourth.
The standard of play was high and
it was a fantastic afternoon enjoyed by all including the
supporters who braved the cold to support their teams.
Well done to our players Karla Radbourne (GS), Sofi a
Baxter (GA), Emilie Schlaefl i (WA), Yasmin Hawkins and
Olivia Turnbull (C), Phoebe Moffat (GD), Honor Longmore
(WD) and Kiki Wilcox (GK).

Interhouse Netball and Football: On Thursday 6
December we had our Interhouse Netball and Football
competition. It was another chilly afternoon and the
children were all in high spirits after preparing for the event
all term. The matches were nailbiting and enjoyed by all.
Netball results: All the girls had an opportunity to play in a
different position in each match. They played extremely well.
The winning House was Brunel, followed by Livingstone and
then joint 3rd place to Nelson and Churchill.
Football results: The boys also had a busy afternoon
on the Common. Everyone played very well but we
could unfortunately only have one winner. Well done to
Livingstone who were the winners, followed by Churchill,
Nelson and Brunel. Well done to everyone and thank you
to all our supporters who braved the very cold weather.
