Principal Report (Sulura Jackson)
Three outdoor benches are to be installed on the north side of school where students go
outside for lunch. The PTSO has offered to provide funds for the purchase of the benches; the
school district will pay for installation. Three proposed benches: diamond pattern $802,
customized with eagle $912 and wave pattern $462. All are 6 ft. long. 4-6 weeks for delivery.
Parents have concerns that prom and graduation ticket prices are high at Skyline
compared to other high schools. The price is higher because there is not as much fund- raising at
Skyline. The ticket cost includes rental of U of M ballroom, valet parking, DJ, refreshments and
prom favors. The school provides need-based scholarship for prom expenses and they let people
pay what they can. Cap and gown rentals are higher because the light blue school color is not a
common color and thus more expensive.
Communication issues were discussed. Some parents are not getting information about
prom. Seniors get special announcements during Sky-12 time. Seniors need to take the
responsibility to pass on information to parents.
Yearbooks will be distributed the last week the seniors are at school.
Ms. Jackson has asked the superintendent for indoor security cameras. There has been
writing on restroom walls, including threats. Currently the restrooms are checked hourly and
sometimes some of them are locked. There has been less vandalism in the parking lot, possibly
due to the outdoor security cameras.
Harry Haywood is assisting with discipline during this busy time. He is not an assistant
principal.
Treasurer’s Report (Bill Ebright):
Income $3.25 Hillers’
Expenses $5.00 bank fees; $103.86 Skygrants (fruit)
Balance: $21,378.87 (-154.00 Eagle Club)
ASAN $25,194.12
Robotics: $7337.63
Funding Requests:
1. Graduation Flags: $2184.38 was requested to purchase US, Michigan, Skyline flag and
podium banner, SLC flags and flag poles. These will be used for graduation every year
and presumably at other events. The PTSO voted to provide $2184.38 for the graduation
flags.
2. Yearbooks: $3100 requested to purchase yearbooks for 62 students who have not ordered
yearbooks and would qualify for financial assistance. A motion was made to use the
$1000 the PTSO has identified in the budget for need-based scholarships to supplement
the cost of yearbooks for seniors who are unable to fund the full price of the yearbook.
The PTSO voted that $1000 will be provided for yearbooks for seniors.
3. Benches: A motion was made to purchase the less expensive model. The PTSO voted to
approve $1742 for the purchase of three benches to be installed at the expense of the
district.
New Business:
The Eagle Club has a deficit of $154 which the PTSO has covered pending fund-raising
by the club. A motion was made to allow a fund deficit for the Eagle Club up to $500. This was
approved.
