Welcome to the
INTERNSHIP & CAREER CENTER
I am pleased to present the 2007-2009 Annual Report of the Internship & Career Center (ICC). It has been a highly productive two
years with accomplishments in all of our service areas including internship development and placement, career advising and assisting
students and recent alumni with career placements. The Center-wide reorganization that was developed during a two year period
was fully implemented in 2008, and our new management team worked closely with all staff
to develop new internship opportunities for students, both domestically and abroad; created
new enhancements for Center technology and electronic services; and developed additional
opportunities for student, faculty and staff involvement in community service.
I invite all members of the campus community to join us in spreading the ICC’s message of
service to students, recent alumni and employers. Our accomplished staff are rightly proud of
their success and are skilled at helping students to realize their goals. The ICC team provides
one-on-one and group advising; hosts large-scale career fairs and symposia each year; and
presents hundreds of seminars, workshops and career exploration courses. We value your
partnership and look forward to serving students and the general campus community in
the years ahead.

Internships
Internships are the cornerstone of ICC services to students. They are the primary tool used to help students clarify their academic and
career goals. Internships provide the added benefit of preparing students with skills that can be applied in a variety of environments
while developing their own professional network. Additionally, internships provide students with hands-on exposure to ways in which
their coursework is applied.
Local
The Internship & Career Center facilitates internship opportunities for students from all majors in a breadth of arenas including
business, the arts, law, education, agriculture, engineering, health, government, biotechnology and the environment. Students intern
with faculty throughout the core campus and professional schools. Over 1,600 undergrads participate in hospital/clinical internships
at the UC Davis Medical Center each year. Thousands of others participate in research internships
with faculty in nearly all disciplines. Innumerable campus labs are populated by UC Davis undergrads
Internship Placements involved in bench research and data analysis.

National
In addition to the 120 UC Davis students that participate each year in the Washington Program,
numerous UC Davis students take advantage of internship opportunities throughout the U.S.
Examples include placements with Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico, Summerbridge
teaching internships in Florida, Boeing in Pennsylvania, UBS Wealth Management in New York, and
Walt Disney World in Florida.
2007-08 2008-09
International
During 07-09 UC Davis students interned on every continent except Antarctica, with over 450
interns abroad. Placements included United Nations War Crime Tribunal in Tanzania, health clinics
in Costa Rica and Viet Nam, environmental preservation in Greece and Australia and viticulture in
several European and South American countries. The ICC International Internship Travel Grant
program provided funding to 50 students that, for many, made an overseas internship possible.
