Campus Collaborations
The Internship & Career Center works with a variety of collaborators, including UC Davis colleges, divisions and professional schools,
UC systemwide programs and nationally recognized organizations to enhance services for UC Davis students. This page provides a
snapshot of the ways we collaborate to create internships, provide services and instruct UC Davis students.
Career Discovery Groups
More than 700 CAES freshmen have participated in the Career
Discovery Group (CDG) program since 2006-07. A career
course taught by ICC staff and engagement with a mentor
are centerpieces of the program. Preliminary analysis of
the academic performance of CDG students shows that all
measures of student success (e.g. GPA and student retention)
increased in CDG participants when compared to students not
in the program.
Careers in Environmental Health Sciences
In 2007, the ICC and the Department of Environmental
Toxicology were awarded a 5 year $260,966 grant from the
National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to
increase the “pipeline” of talented, well-prepared individuals
for careers in environmental health. The grant is administered
by the Department of Environmental Toxicology and provides
stipends to students involved in research internships. The
ICC’s involvement is in-kind and includes introducing students
to environmental health career options.
Washington Program
The UC Washington Program is a residential program that
provides students from all majors the opportunity to live,
intern and study in Washington, D.C. In 2007-09 306 students
participated and completed academic internships in the
nation’s capitol.
Forest Service
The US Department of Agriculture‐Forest Service continued
its 14 year collaboration with the ICC in 2007-09 by placing a
USFS staff member in the ICC to advise UC Davis students
and alumni on internships, temporary placements and
career job opportunities with the Forest Service. The USFS
representative advised hundreds of students on USDA-Forest
Service options and facilitated placements for students with
government agencies and programs.
Peace Corps
The Peace Corps is an international assistance program
operated by the US government that places volunteers in
developing countries worldwide. The ICC has supported
Peace Corps recruitment at UC Davis since 1977 and was
notably successful again in 2007-09 by nominating 73 UC
Davis students and alumni to volunteer overseas. UC Davis
earned a national ranking of 14th in 2009 among large 4 year
universities for its successful recruitment efforts.
UC Center Sacramento
The University of California Center Sacramento (UCCS)
program is in its 5th year of providing opportunities for UC
students to intern in California’s capitol. The ICC continued
its lead support for UCCS in 2007-09 by placing 43 UC Davis
students. Interns gain experience in a wide range of agencies
including: California Air Resources Board; State Senate and
Assembly Offices and Committees; California Arts Council;
California Service Corps; California Water Resources Control
Board; and Divisions within the Governor’s Office.
Community Service Resource Center
formerly known as Human Corps
In 2008-09, UC Davis celebrated the “Centennial Year of
Service.” The Community Service Resource Center (CSRC)
facilitated community service through the Community Service
Networking Fair, service e-bulletins and local Weekends of
Service. UC Davis received the 2007 and 2008 President’s
Higher Education Community
Service Honor Roll awards
for innovative and effective
community service and servicelearning
programs. In 2007-09,
UC Davis students engaged in
more than 400,000 hours of
service annually.
