History 

The history of Sakura goes back to 1871, the early 

Meiji period. Prior to 1870, the company was called 

Iwashiya, and it manufactured and sold pharmaceuticals 

throughout Japan. The medical equipment division of 

Iwashiya was formed in 1871, and by 1887, the trademark 

Sakura (literally, “cherry blossom”) was registered. 

For the next 90 years, the company manufactured 

a variety of medical equipment including the first 

Japanese microscope. In 1962, the company name 

was changed to Sakura Finetechnical Co., Ltd. 

Sakura is the original manufacturer of the Tissue- 

Tek ® , Cyto-Tek ® , VIP ® and Xpress ® x Series products 

that have become industry standards over the years.

Sakura Finetek U.S.A., Inc. was established in the United 

States in 1986. The company acquired the histology and 

cytology product lines of Miles Inc. in 1994. 

In 1994 Sakura Finetek Europe is set up as an 

independent organisation, reporting to the Sakura 

Finetek U.S.A., Inc. Sakura Finetek Europe has the 

mission to support its sales entities and distributors. 

Today, we distribute products through our network of 

more than 60 Sakura sales entities and distributors to 

over 100 countries in Europe, Middle East, Africa and 

India.

The Tissue-Tek ® Tissue Bag system is designed for 

transporting wet tissue from one place to another and for 

the short to long term storage of tissue. Proven in use since 

1980, the 6 sizes of bag are manufactured from a special

Accu-Edge ® Elevating Grossing Station 

Constructed from high-quality stainless steel, the Accu- 

Edge ® Elevating Grossing Station is a floor model 

that stands at counter height. The Elevating Grossing 

Station has the ability to elevate from 81 cm to 112 cm to 

accommodate all lab personnel. 

This Station is equipped with a vacuum breaker-protected 

water supply and duct directly to the building ventilation 

system. Other standard features include ½ 3,7 kW disposal, 

polyethylene dissecting board, magnetic instrument holder, 

dissecting area rinse, shelving, and a spray hose assembly. 

Accu-Edge ® Countertop Grossing Station 

The Countertop Grossing Station is available with two duct 

options: ducting either to an outside ventilation source or by 

using the self-contained ventilation system with replaceable 

filters. Other standard features include integral sink with 

mixing faucet, easily accessible control panel, ample 

lighting, formalin container with spigot, C-fold paper towel 

holder, magnetic instrument holder, and a polyethylene

The Accu-Edge ® Grossing Tools System will allow you to 

consistently and easily obtain tissue samples that have a 

controlled and uniform thickness. This method of standardised 

grossing enables consistent quality in tissue processing.

Accu-Edge ® Grossing Forks 

While the Accu-Edge ® Grossing Board facilitates the 

sampling of solid organs and tumours, some types of tissue 

are not amenable for its use. Therefore, Sakura developed 

the Accu-Edge ® Grossing Forks. The Accu-Edge ® Grossing 

Forks are available in three thickness sizes: 1.5 mm, 2.0 

mm and 2.5 mm. 

With the Accu-Edge ® Grossing Forks the tissue is held in 

place while sliding the blade against the outer surfaces, 

resulting in a section of the desired thickness in the gap 

between the tines. 

Tissue-Tek ® NEUTRALEX ® 

The Tissue-Tek ® NEUTRALEX ® aldehyde neutralisation 

technology is designed to treat aldehydic wastewater in a 

batch processing mode. The used aldehydic solutions are 

transferred to a collection vessel and treated with a 

pre-measured amount of Tissue-Tek ® NEUTRALEX ® to 

render non-hazardous liquid waste. After being tested, the 

solution may be disposed of via the sewage system as a 

non-hazardous waste (where allowed by local authorities).

Tissue-Tek ® Disposable Dissection Board 

Tissue-Tek ® Disposable Dissection Board is designed 

to increase safety and hygiene in high-risk areas as 

well as routine grossing areas. Manufactured from a 3 mm 

thick, 3-ply, foam-filled board for strength and rigidity, this 

high quality laminated board is moisture resistant and helps 

protect work surfaces while ensuring accurate dissection. 

Each Tissue-Tek ® Disposable Dissection Board has a 

metric scale to assist in macroscopic and photographic 

recording of specimens. The Tissue-Tek ® Disposable 

Dissection Board is easily disposed off by incineration.

Sakura IDent Cassette & Slide Printers 

The Sakura IDent Cassette & Slide Printers offer a manual 

printing method for low-volume laboratories. The IDent 

Cassette Printer can print up to 2 lines of 16 positions each, 

while the IDent Slide Printer can print up to 4 lines of 16 

positions each, with small or large characters. The printers 

are capable of printing all numbers, symbols and special 

characters, such as µ, a, ε, Ω, π, ß and roman numbers. The 

ink is resistant to all reagents commonly used in histology or 

cytology laboratories. A standard keyboard and a separate

The SAKURA TDE 30 Decalcifier System is based on 

a simple electrolytic principle that, in combination with the 

TDE 30 Reagent, decalcifies bones. After decalcification by 

the SAKURA TDE 30, bones can be sectioned more easily. 

By using this technique the duration of the decalcification

The Tissue-Tek ® TEC ® 5 Tissue Embedding Console 

System consists of two modules that together create an 

ergonomic workstation for the production of paraffin blocks. 

The user can position the individual modules from either left 

to right or right to left, depending on personal preference. 

The work surfaces of both modules are at the same height 

and thus the specimens can be transferred easily from one

The Tissue-Tek ® Quick-Ray 

The Tissue-Tek ® Quick-Ray System with high quality 

punches and preformed blocks brings you one step ahead 

of existing Tissue Microarray techniques. The Tissue-Tek ® 

Quick-Ray uses a hollowed tip to remove tissue cores as 

little as 1 mm, from paraffin embedded tissue. 

The extracted tissue is then inserted into a preformed 

paraffin recipient block. The Quick-Ray System is the 

only system available that uses a ready-to-use paraffin 

recipient block. Subsequently, the finished block is 

sectioned using a microtome; the sections are mounted on 

glass slides and then stained (use of current standard 

operating procedures for microtomy and staining).

The novel, innovative Tissue-Tek ® Paraform ® Cassette 

System eliminates the need to perform manual steps at 

the embedding centre. Using Tissue-Tek ® Paraform ® in

Tissue-Tek ® AutoWrite ® Starfrost ® Adhesion Microscope 

Slides are specially designed and manufactured to optimise 

the printing results of the Tissue-Tek ® AutoWrite ® Slide 

Printer. The Tissue-Tek ® AutoWrite ® Slide Printer and glass 

slides guarantee the best results by preventing the ink from 

smudging. Available in five different colours and with cut or 

ground 90° edges, they will fit the process immediately. 

The slide pre-treatment with silan provides strong adhesion 

and prevents the tissue sample from floating away. 

Supplied in packs of 50. 

For user convenience, Tissue-Tek ® AutoWrite ® Starfrost ® 

Adhesion Microscope Slides have clipped corners to reduce 

the production of glass particles during slide printing. 

The Tissue-Tek ® Glas Coverslips are made of ultra-thin, 

pure white borosilicate glass of hydrolytic class 1 and are 

ready to use for both manual and automated coverslipping. 

In order to prevent sticking, the Tissue-Tek ® Glas 

Coverslips are specially pre-treated.

The Tissue-Tek ® Slide mailers offers a very economical 

solution to securely mail up to five slides, without touching. 

With its positive lock and flip-top your microscope slides 

will always be secured when mailing. Sakura Slide Mailers 

are manufactured from high grade durable polypropylene 

ensuring consistent quality and low cost (can be sterilised). 

Designed to protect 76 x 26 mm sized microscope slides 

from 0.8 to 1.2 mm thick. 

The robust cardboard mailers are constructed from a 

one-piece moulding. This provides a high level of protection 

for 4 normal sized microscope slides or 1 Super Mega 

microscope slide.

Tissue-Tek ® Slide Folders 

The Tissue-Tek ® Slide Folder 10 and 20 trays feature a 

useful 360°cover flap, which neatly folds back to save working 

space. An index reference is included on the flap and 

a recessed well on the inside flap prevents damp slides 

from sticking to the board. The Tissue-Tek ® Slide Folder 

10 Tray, which measures 335 x 102 mm, has a single 

column of 10. The Tissue-Tek ® Slide Folder 20 Tray, 

measures 335 x 205 mm, is arranged in two columns of 

10. Each slide has its own easy release compartment, 

which is individually numbered. 

The Tissue-Tek ® Slide Boxes are made from a sturdy plastic 

material and offer safe and cost–effective microscope slide 

storage. They may be stacked for easy storage and feature 

a snap closure that seals out dust and dirt. Our boxes are

Microtomy 

The Sakura Water Bath & Hot Plate provide a simple and 

secure way of stretching paraffin sections as required in 

histological, pathological, bacteriological and chemical 

laboratories. It also provides optimal drying on the wide, 

heated preparation area. The working temperature can be 

adjusted from room temperature up to 80°C. However, in 

order to avoid damaging your valuable biopsy specimen, 

the temperature should not exceed 60°C. 

The Tissue-Tek ® Cold Plate provides an easy way to cool 

blocks before sectioning. Just cool the plates in an ordinary 

freezer and take them out when there is a need for cooling 

blocks. The plates will stay cold for a long period, due to 

insulated bases.

Tissue-Tek ® Staining Solutions 


The Manual Slide Staining Set can be used for histological 

or cytological staining procedures. The set provides 

simultaneous use of up to 12 solution wells, each deep 

enough to permit total immersion of 2.5 to 7.6 cm slides. 

The tamped metal frame is solvent-resistant, with a 

snap-locking cover that prevents spills. Ten white 

polypropylene dishes and two green solvent-resistant 

dishes are included. 

Tight-fitting lids for each solution dish help eliminate 

evaporation. Comes complete with 12 dishes and lids,

The patented Mechatronics mechanism ensures the 

prevention of any damage to the cover glass and tissue and 

gives a bubble free result. Furthermore, the availability of 9 

coverslipping programs and 8 different coverslips ensures 

a glass coverslipping process which delivers the highest 

possible quality and flexibility. 

After coverslipping, the slide is transferred to a different 

basket to speed up the drying time and prevent sticking. The 

baskets will be transferred to the unloading station which has 

a total unloading capacity of 12 baskets with each 10 or 20 

slides, with an unloading maximum capacity of 240 slides.

the Glas g2 Coverslipper, offering the user the possibility 

to walk-away, and unload the Glas g2 after 12 baskets of

freeze and section tissue specimens. The instrument 

consists of a cabinet with a refrigerated chamber, Cryobar ® ,

Cyto-Tek ® Cytocentrifuge 

The Cyto-Tek ® Cytocentrifuge is a bench-top centrifuge 

for cytological specimens that transfers cells from fluids to 

glass slides for microscopic examination. Cell dispersion 

on the glass slide is in a specific, square area, with all cells 

from the specimen deposited evenly on the slide. Paced 

acceleration is always on, eliminating operator bias in 

assessing cell fragility. It will operate at speeds from 500 to 

2.500 rpm, adjustable in increments of 100 rpm, for periods 

from 1 minute to 60 minutes. Three sizes of specimen 

chambers are available for the unit. The 1 mL chamber is 

disposable and accommodates as little as 0.1 mL of fluid. 

The 6 mL and 12 mL chambers are reusable. The centrifuge 

has a 12-specimen holder capacity.

The Tissue-Tek ® Uni-Cassette ® Filing Cabinet provides a 

permanent storage and reference unit for blocks embedded 

in Tissue-Tek ® Embedding Rings and Cassettes. 

The Filing Cabinets are stackable and accommodate 1.000 

rings or 1.500 cassettes. One-piece construction eliminates 

hinges and doors and provides dust-free storage. Includes 

six impact-resistant plastic drawers with identification area. 

The Tissue-Tek ® Lab Aid ® Filing Cabinet System allows 

convenient storage and retrieval of microscopic slides or 

transparencies. The 25 mm drawer section is designed to 

hold 25 x 76 mm microscopic slides. Each section contains 

14 drawers, with a capacity of 465 slides per drawer. 

The 50 mm drawer section is designed to hold 50 x 50 mm 

transparencies or 76 x 50 mm microscopic slides. 

The drawer section is complete with 7 drawers, which 

will accommodate 271 slides per drawer. The system is 

constructed of welded steel for durability and requires 0.23 

m 2 of floor space. Slide backstops easily attach to the 

inside of the drawers to hold slides in place when drawer is 

not full. Also available is a slide liner (spring) to hold slides 

upright during drying process.
