Finland is well-known for being a safe and stable society<br />
with a high standard <strong>of</strong> living and education, and it is one <strong>of</strong> the leading<br />
information societies in the world. The Finnish way <strong>of</strong> life is a unique<br />
mixture <strong>of</strong> high-tech and love for the country’s unspoilt nature. Finland<br />
is a member <strong>of</strong> the European Union and has strong ties with other Scandinavian<br />

The City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tampere</strong><br />
<strong>Tampere</strong> is the largest inland city in Scandinavia, and<br />
the second largest economic area in Finland. Today, it is best known for<br />
its hightech industries. <strong>Tampere</strong> was founded in 1779, and has about<br />
200 000 inhabitants, out <strong>of</strong> which about 40 000 are students.<br />
<strong>Tampere</strong> has four higher education institutions which work in close<br />
collaboration with each other as well as the businesses <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Tampere</strong><br />
Region, which is one <strong>of</strong> the most rapidly developing regions in Finland.<br />
<strong>Tampere</strong> is surrounded by Finland’s natural beauty. It is located between<br />
two large lakes and has vast outdoor recreational areas. <strong>Tampere</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers<br />
terrific possibilities for sports or just relaxing in a clean and unspoiled<br />
environment - for example, the Kauppi Sports Park is right next to <strong>TAMK</strong><br />
main campus. <strong>Tampere</strong> is also renowned for its theatres and culture.<br />
Travelling to <strong>Tampere</strong> is easy due to its international airport and its good<br />
