<strong>REPORTS</strong> TO: Director of Maintenance<br />
SALARY GRADE: 57<br />
NATURE OF WORK<br />
An employee in this class performs simple tasks in the field of carpentry. The appearance and<br />
finish of work produced at this level is not critical. Examples of such work are building and<br />
repairing frameworks, scaffold, supports and simple wooden articles. A higher level employee<br />
is available to assist in solving any problems that may arise. Since work is closely checked<br />
while in progress, errors of any serious consequence are unlikely to occur. Direct supervision is<br />
given to employees at this level.<br />
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional Duties May Be Assigned.<br />
• Gathers materials to be used.<br />
• Measures and marks materials for cutting.<br />
• Cuts and drills wood and other materials using hand and power tools.<br />
• Joins materials with nails, screws or glue.<br />
• Checks accuracy of work with levels, rulers and measuring tapes.<br />
• Fits and nails sheathing on outer walls and roofs in preparation for boards.<br />
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:<br />
• Some knowledge of the methods of carpentry work.<br />
• Some skill in using tools to cut and join wooden materials.<br />
• Ability to follow written instructions.<br />
• Ability to follow oral instructions with little need for repetition.<br />

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:<br />
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance<br />
instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position.<br />
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators,<br />
staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.<br />
REASONING ABILITY:<br />
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in<br />
situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this<br />
position<br />
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule<br />
form consistent with the duties of this position<br />
SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE<br />
• Some aptitude for carpentry work demonstrated in prior work, school experience or<br />
personal activities.<br />
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:<br />
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk<br />
or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls.<br />
The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific<br />
visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth<br />
perception. The employee may have to lift up to 50 lbs. daily.<br />
WORK ENVIRONMENT:<br />
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee<br />
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work<br />
environment is usually quiet. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.<br />
EVALUATION:<br />
Performance in this position will be evaluated regularly by the supervisor in accordance with<br />
Board Policy.
