4. Financial Implications<br />
<strong>Council</strong> allocated $30,000 funding for event sponsorship in the 2012/13 budget over two<br />
rounds. Applications in Round One were granted a total <strong>of</strong> $9,250. This report recommends an<br />
allocation <strong>of</strong> $9,500 be granted in Round Two leaving a balance <strong>of</strong> $11,250 in the budget. It<br />
should be noted that six events directly affected by the March 2012 flood event, have not<br />
applied this year as they are supported through the Flood Recovery Program. The remaining<br />
balance is still required for opportunities to support events before the end <strong>of</strong> the financial year.<br />
To assist existing events grow, Sun Country on the Murray are seeking to hold workshops in<br />
event management including risk management, marketing and promotion, attendance<br />
measurement and grant writing and sponsorship (outside sources) for their future growth and<br />
development. The balance could also be directed into this type <strong>of</strong> program.<br />
5. Community Consultation<br />
The Event Sponsorship Program was advertised in the <strong>Moira</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> Community Update page in<br />
local newspapers and on the <strong>Moira</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>Council</strong> website.<br />
6. Internal Consultation<br />
Internal consultation has occurred with the following <strong>of</strong>ficers; Executive Officer, Tourism, Team<br />
Leader, Community Building, Events Development Officer, Tourism and Flood Recovery Officer<br />
from the Economic Development Unit.<br />
7. Legislative / Policy Implications<br />
There are no legislative implications to consider within this report. Applications were considered<br />
in accordance with <strong>Council</strong>’s Event Sponsorship policy.<br />
8. Environmental Sustainability<br />
The <strong>Moira</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>Council</strong> Event Management Guidelines ensure environmental implications<br />
including waste. Recycling, noise and protections <strong>of</strong> parks and gardens and other <strong>Council</strong><br />
assets are considered and addressed by event organisers. <strong>Council</strong>’s Event Development<br />
Officer and Coordinator Waste Management Services assist event management committees to<br />
achieve positive environmental outcomes.<br />
9. Conflict <strong>of</strong> Interest Considerations<br />
There are no <strong>of</strong>ficer conflict <strong>of</strong> interest issues to consider within this report.<br />
10. Conclusion<br />
The Event Sponsorship Program supports the development <strong>of</strong> new and existing events and<br />
promotional activities that primarily provide economic, social and cultural benefits to the <strong>Moira</strong><br />
Community.<br />
