Regional Competition Reminders The July issue of The Pitch Pipe is dedicated to the winners of the regional competitions. Photos, songs, arrangers and other information are included for each first-place quartet, chorus, Division A chorus and Division AA chorus. If your chorus or quartet is one of the first-place winners in your region, please remember to send in song and arranger information immediately after winning. Board Elections The regions that achieved 100 percent participation in the 2010 Board elections were: Midwest Gateway Region 5, Great Gulf Coast Region 10, Golden West Region 21, Mid-America Region 22, and the Satellite Area 30. International Board Applications Available Online In 2011 the membership of Sweet Adelines International will choose two applicants to fill threeyear terms on the International Board of Directions beginning May 1, 2012. In addition, two one-year terms will be filled by the Board through an appointment process. If you are interested in submitting your name for consideration by the 2011-2012 Nominating Committee, please complete the 2011 Potential Nominee Application. This document is available on the Sweet Adelines web site. Click here for access. If you choose to submit a signed application, you are granting permission for the organization to contact the references you list as well as members of the IBOD, Regional Management Team, and experienced international and regional leaders who may be acquainted with you. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is May 27. This gives sufficient time for references to be obtained then shared with the 2011-2012 Nominating Committee, which will meet in July. Ideally, a potential nominee should work well on her own and as a team member to define and pursue goals, and to carry out the aims of the international organization. Her qualifications also should include: • Positive, objective attitude • Good listening skills • Critical and analytical thinking as well as imaginative and creative thinking • Effective verbal and written communications skills • Knowledge of and ability to use available resources • Computer skills, with ability to communicate electronically • Ability to adapt easily to different environments • Ability to relate to a variety of personality types • Training and experience in a field which could be of value to the International Board • Experience in Sweet Adelines International as a chapter, regional or International officer, committee chair or committee member • Thorough understanding of the mission and goals of Sweet Adelines International • Professional appearance and dress If you have questions about the nominating process or about the 2011 Potential Nominee Application please write to corp_secy@sweetadelineintl.org. Seeking MENC/EMEA Award Nominees Do you know a Sweet Adeline who is also a professional music educator? Let us know about them and they might just be the next recipient of the Sweet Adelines International MENC/EMEA Award. The director of education at International headquarters will accept nominations through May 15. Click here to access the nomination form. The International Board of Directors will select the recipient based on these criteria: • Is she a member of MENC/EMEA? • Is she a member of Sweet Adelines International? • What has she contributed to further music education in public and/or private schools by promoting the barbershop style as an American art form? The MENC award has been presented annually since1992. The EMEA (European Music Educators Association) award was established in 2001. If you, or someone you know, would like to be considered for this prestigious award, please download a nomination form or contact Lori Decter Wright, director of education. MENC/EMEA will send a representative to convention in Houston to present an award plaque on the international stage.
