6.5.2.14.5.2.1 Target size and growth rate<br />

The domestic market is expected to grow at a CAGR <strong>of</strong> 29% and<br />

production is targeted to grow at CAGR <strong>of</strong> 35%.<br />

6.5.2.24.5.2.2 Target employment levels:<br />

The increase in production <strong>of</strong> metallurgical machinery will result in<br />

increase in employment opportunities – direct as well as indirect. A<br />

production <strong>of</strong> Rs.12, 000 crore/annum <strong>of</strong> metallurgical machinery by<br />

the year 2021 is estimated to provide direct employment to around<br />

60,000 persons against the estimated 12,940 in 2009-10.<br />

6.5.2.34.5.2.3 Target technologies to be developed:<br />

High Priority<br />

– Beneficiation/Utilization (Pelletization) <strong>of</strong> slimes<br />

– Beneficiation <strong>of</strong> low grade iron ore (Fe: 30~40%)<br />

– Development <strong>of</strong> technology for palletization <strong>of</strong> hematite/<br />

geothetic ore<br />

– Recovery <strong>of</strong> ultra fine iron mineral from slime<br />

– Coal gasification<br />

– Developments <strong>of</strong> smelters e.g. COREX, FINEX etc.<br />

– Use <strong>of</strong> energy saving technologies e.g. CDQ (coke dry<br />

quenching), TRT(top gas recovery turbine) , HEC (high<br />

efficiency combustion) regenerative burners etc.<br />

– Chemical absorption <strong>of</strong> CO 2 and storing it underground<br />

– Development <strong>of</strong> microbial treatment for effluent treatment<br />

– Level-3 automation<br />

– Extensive use <strong>of</strong> Process/ Supervisory Models<br />

– Blast Furnace equipment<br />

o Mud Gun<br />

o Slag granulation plant<br />

o Tap hole Drilling Machine<br />

o Top Charging equipment<br />

o Tuyeres, Tuyere coolers<br />
