Kiwanis Music Festival - National Capital Region<br />
Member of: Ontario Music Festivals Assoc. Inc. & The Federation of Canadian Music Festivals<br />
Each year our team of Adjudicators recommends competitors for the Finals of the Ontario Music<br />
Festival Association (held in June) and the National Festival (held in August) in the following<br />
categories: Voice, Piano, Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Music Theatre, Chamber Groups, Classical<br />
Guitar and Percussion. In addition, there are classes at the Provincial level for Bands and Choirs,<br />
and for Choirs at the National level. Criteria for repertoire is listed in the Provincial and National<br />
Syllabi which may be obtained from the Festival office.<br />
Students may be designated as competitors in the Provincial Graded Competitions for solo<br />
performances in Vocal, Piano, Strings, Woodwinds and Brass in Conservatory Grades 7 to<br />
Diploma and OPEN as outlined in the Provincial Syllabus which may be obtained from the Festival<br />
office.<br />
All students who have an interest in proceeding to Provincial Competitions are advised<br />
to study the appropriate regulations. Eligibility to compete at the Provincial level<br />
depends on the classes entered and repertoire performed at the local Festival.<br />
At the local Festival, on the recommendation of the adjudicator, one or two competetors<br />
displaying the greatest musicianship in each class (and having attained a mark of 85% or more)<br />
will be eligible to compete at the Provincial level. Regulations at the Provincial and National<br />
levels are similar; copies of the complete Provincial Syllabus for Open Competitions are available<br />
from the Festival office.<br />
Senior & Advanced students have an opportunity to go on to further competition with their<br />
peers at the Provincial and National levels in the following Classes: Class 1 - Vocal Solo; Class<br />
2 - Pianoforte Solo; Class 3 - String Solo; Class 4 - Woodwind Solo; Class 5 - Brass Solo; Class<br />
6 - Chamber Groups; Class 7, Classical Guitar; Class 8, Class 9 Percussion. As well there are<br />
appropriate classes for Choral Groups.<br />
Junior students may be designated as competitors in the Provincial Graded Competitions for solo<br />
performances Classes 1 to 5, in Conservatory Grades 7 to 10 as outlined in detail in the section<br />
headed Provincial Graded Competition.<br />
