David Gerry (Flute and Woodwinds)<br />
David Gerry maintains a busy schedule as a teacher, researcher,<br />
performer and clinician. David is completing his PhD in music<br />
cognition at the School of Psychology, Neuroscience and<br />
Behaviour, McMaster University where he works with Dr. Laurel<br />
Trainor. His doctoral research was funded, in part, from the<br />
Grammy Foundation in Los Angeles. He holds an MMus and<br />
BMus.Perf. from the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and an<br />
ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music, which also<br />
awarded him the gold medal in flute. David is also a graduate of<br />
the Talent Education Institute in Japan, where he studied with<br />
Shinichi Suzuki and Toshio Takahashi. He is currently assistant<br />
professor of music education at the School of the Arts, McMaster<br />
David’s research has been published in numerous prestigious publications, including<br />
Developmental Science and the New York Annals of Science. He has been a keynote<br />
speaker at numerous education conferences and recent appearances have included<br />
lecturing, playing and teaching in New Zealand, Japan, and Alaska. David is also on the<br />
faculty of the Great Lakes Flute Centre. For many years he was the music specialist at<br />
Trail Ridge Montessori School in Grimsby, Ontario. He is a Registered Teacher Trainer<br />
for the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the European Suzuki Association. His<br />
students at McMaster have continued their education at many of North America’s leading<br />
graduate programmes, including those at Eastman, McGill, the University of British<br />
Columbia, the University of Buffalo and New York University.<br />
Thomas Green (Senior Graded Piano)<br />
Thomas Green's studio currently comprises approximately twenty<br />
piano students, ranging in level from Preparatory A to ARCT. In<br />
addition, he teaches harmony, history, and analysis. Approximately<br />
half of his teaching takes place at the Académie Ste Cécile and half<br />
takes place in his home studio.<br />
Dr. Green's most influential piano teachers were Clifford Poole in<br />
Toronto and Yvonne Hubert in Montréal. In addition, he studied<br />
piano accompaniment with John Newmark, leading to a Diplôme<br />
d'accompagnement from the Ecole Vincent d'Indy in Montréal.<br />
He completed his Ph.D. thesis, a study of the compositional process of Jean-Philippe<br />
Rameau, under the direction of Robert Marshall.<br />
Dr. Green has served as Chief Examiner for The Royal Conservatory since 2007. On<br />
behalf of RCM Examinations he has presented workshops for teachers and professional<br />
development sessions for examiners across Canada. In addition, he has given<br />
presentations on various aspects of music history and piano pedagogy at national and<br />
international conferences.<br />
