Redwood’s First-Ever Gaming Day Turns On New Enthusiasts
Thanks to Redwood resident Gus Asensio and
Shaurath Sayani for hosting an AWESOME game extravaganza
last Saturday at Redwood House. It started
at noon and went until midnight. It was the perfect
length of time because people could drop in and
out to play games. Having never been to an event
like this before, I was surprised at the number of
games that were available to play—Euro games,
strategy board games, card games. There were people
of all skill levels there, so if you had no experience
(like my friend Tristan and I) all you had to do
was sit down at the table of your choice and the more
experienced gamers would show you how to play.
We arrived in the early evening and stayed until midnight.
The snack bar was very handy especially when you
consider that one of the games took 6 hours to finish.
However, before you get the wrong idea, there was
such a wide variety of games, that some of them only
took thirty to sixty minutes to complete.
There was a great turn out. There was a guy there
that was actually a game designer. Very cool!
I’m really glad that I went. We thought it was so
much fun that the next day Tristan went to Calgary’s
premier gaming shop “Sentry Box” and bought one
of the games, so now we can play at his house. I have
since bought the card game “Dominion” and have
played with my mom and dad.
I think Gus did a really good job at setting this up. I
hope he does it again!
