Comprehensive services, convenient location<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Outpatient</strong> <strong>Burn</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Wound</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>Center</strong> offers<br />

advanced, comprehensive care for complex burns <strong>and</strong><br />

wounds to children of all ages <strong>and</strong> adults. We provide<br />

care for those with burns <strong>and</strong> wounds that do not<br />

require hospitalization, as well as for patients who<br />

have recently been discharged from the hospital <strong>and</strong><br />

need follow-up care until fully healed. Our services<br />

also include comprehensive outpatient care for<br />

ostomy patients.<br />

Our experienced, multidisciplinary team underst<strong>and</strong>s<br />

the physical <strong>and</strong> psychological effects of burns <strong>and</strong><br />

other injuries for both adults <strong>and</strong> children. We are<br />

committed to working closely with you <strong>and</strong> your family<br />

in a supportive environment.<br />

Your care team includes board-certified plastic<br />

surgeons, general surgeons, internal medicine<br />

specialists, dermatologists, specialized nurses <strong>and</strong><br />

therapists, <strong>and</strong> other medical professionals.<br />

<strong>Burn</strong> <strong>and</strong> wound care<br />

We provide outpatient care for all types of complex burn<br />

injuries, including those caused by thermal, electrical<br />

<strong>and</strong> chemical sources. We also care for wounds that are<br />

difficult <strong>and</strong> slow to heal. <strong>The</strong>se wounds can result from<br />

trauma, surgery <strong>and</strong> complications of medical<br />

conditions, such as diabetes <strong>and</strong> vascular disease.<br />

<strong>The</strong> outpatient center is an extension of our <strong>Burn</strong>ett<br />

<strong>Burn</strong> <strong>Center</strong>, the only burn care facility in the region that<br />

is verified by the American <strong>Burn</strong> Association <strong>and</strong> the<br />

American College of Surgeons.<br />

Services include<br />

• Advanced care for patients who have been through<br />

surgery, as well as those who have not. <strong>Care</strong> includes<br />

the latest dressings, topical treatments, hydrotherapy<br />

<strong>and</strong> hyperbaric oxygen therapy (see other side).<br />

• Rehab therapy to monitor your ability to move <strong>and</strong><br />

perform daily activities<br />

• Scar management with compression therapy<br />

• Specialty support from pain management <strong>and</strong> other<br />

related hospital services<br />

• Patient <strong>and</strong> family education <strong>and</strong> support<br />

• Monthly burn survivors support group <strong>and</strong> wellness<br />

programs<br />

Ostomy care provided noon-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays<br />

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy<br />

This advanced therapy uses pressurized, pure oxygen to<br />

increase the amount of oxygen in the patient’s blood<br />

stream <strong>and</strong> enhance healing. Our state-of-the-art,<br />

individual hyperbaric oxygen chambers provide<br />

effective treatment for a range of wounds <strong>and</strong><br />

conditions, including:<br />

• <strong>Burn</strong>s<br />

• Diabetic foot ulcers <strong>and</strong> other wounds<br />

• <strong>Wound</strong>s related to peripheral vascular disease<br />

• Gangrene<br />

• Carbon monoxide poisoning<br />

• Decompression illness, such as the bends<br />

from scuba diving<br />

• Spider bites<br />

Ostomy care<br />

Our outpatient ostomy care team provides patients with<br />

long-term essential care from a certified ostomy care<br />

nurse (COCN) or a certified wound, ostomy <strong>and</strong><br />

continence nurse (CWOCN) specialist.<br />

Our specialists provide care for every stage of the<br />

ostomy process:<br />

• Preoperative visits – In addition to preparing for<br />

surgery <strong>and</strong> stoma site marking, we help you adjust<br />

to life with an ostomy <strong>and</strong> address your medical,<br />

social <strong>and</strong> emotional concerns.<br />

• Postoperative visits – We offer follow-up care <strong>and</strong><br />

education to help you cope as you recover <strong>and</strong> adjust<br />

to changes in your daily life.<br />

• Long-term maintenance <strong>and</strong> support – We provide<br />

guidance for patients who have lived for years with<br />

an ostomy. Our staff supports you through any<br />

medical, social <strong>and</strong> emotional issues related to your<br />

condition.<br />
