Our blood <strong>and</strong> marrow transplantcare team provides patients with thewidest range of treatment options.A need for treatmentTens of thous<strong>and</strong>s of adults <strong>and</strong> childrenin the U.S. are diagnosed each year withleukemia, lymphoma, myeloma <strong>and</strong> otherblood diseases. For many, the onlyeffective treatment option is a blood <strong>and</strong>marrow transplant (BMT).BMT has become a successful treatmentbecause it enables physicians to treatthese diseases with aggressive chemotherapy<strong>and</strong>/or radiation. BMT allowsreplacement of the diseased or damagedbone marrow after treatment.Our BMT program provides patients withinnovative <strong>and</strong> lifesaving transplanttherapies.Region’s largest BMT programEstablished in 1977, our BMT programpioneered advancements in bone marrow,peripheral blood <strong>and</strong> cord blood stem celltransplants in the <strong>Kansas</strong> City area. We’vesuccessfully completed more than 1,400transplants. Ours was the first BMTprogram in the region to receive accreditation by theFoundation for Accreditation of Cellular <strong>The</strong>rapy, animportant industry measure of quality.Through the National <strong>Marrow</strong> Donor Program, wehelp find matches for patients who do not have asuitable bone marrow or stem cell donor in thefamily.
