Alumni
Progress continues on the identification and location of Rose State College alumni. During the past year over 1,000
alumni have been contacted to reconnect with Rose State College. Currently, 680 individuals have indicated an interest
in an alumni organization. A steering committee will define the direction for the alumni organization and to provide
opportunities for alumni to become involved with the College, its students and its activities.
Building an Endowment
Four major types of endowments can be established through the Rose State College Foundation-scholarships, lectureships,
professorships and chairs. Minimum levels for endowments are: scholarships, $15,000; lectureships, $25,000;
professorships, $125,000; and chairs, $250,000. Endowments are typically developed over a three-year period with the
intent established at the time of the first contribution. During the development phase, funds are held in a special account
and transferred to the appropriate endowment when they reach the minimum level. Endowed scholarships will be awarded
in perpetuity.
Requests for matching funds from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for lectureships, professorships
and chairs can be made when an intent to develop an endowment is made and at least half of the funds have been
received by the Foundation. The donor also agrees to complete the funding within three years. When the minimum
funding is received by the Rose State College Foundation, both the private funds and the matching funds are invested
through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. A portion of the interest earned is available through an
annual allocation to fund the designated priorities of each endowment.
James F. Howell “Country Lawyer” Lectureship
The third James F. Howell “Country Lawyer” Lectureship speaker was the Honorable Lee B. West, U.S. District Judge
for the Western District of Oklahoma. Judge West spoke on the National Law Day theme, “To Win Equality by Law:
Brown v. Board at 50.” Judge West used his humor and intellect to bring the theme to life. He informed and entertained
the audience, offering a new insight into the law. Interest from the Howell Lectureship brings distinguished speakers
to the campus each spring to speak to students, faculty, staff and community members.
