The resounding result
here in Berowra saw my
share of the two-party
preferred count rise to
69.24% of the total vote.
Clearly, the Coalition’s
message that we have the
plans, the policies and the
people to deliver a strong,
prosperous economy and a
safe, secure Australia,
resonated with the people
of Berowra.
I have now been
appointed Chief
Government Whip and, as
Tony Abbott stated on
election night, Australia is
now under new
management and we are
all getting down to
business.

many kilograms of used
stamps which raised over
$4600 for the Australian
Lions Children’s Mobility
Foundation, helping
children to walk with the
aid of devices including
the Hart Walker. Our hope
is to exceed that figure this
year.Please continue the
good work.

Sir,
I would like to thank
the voters in the seat of
Berowra for their civility
and courtesy towards me
and my campaign team
during the recent Federal
Election.
To say that Labor is not
the flavour of the month in
this electorate is an
understatement and yet, to
date, almost 15000 electors
voted for me as their first
preference on 7th
September and I am very
grateful to them for their
support.
I also wish to
acknowledge the courtesy
of the other six candidates
in this electorate. We were
all very civil to each other
whenever we crossed
paths. In all of the
community forums we
attended, we put forward
our policies and our plans
for Berowra and did not
attack each other. This was
a welcome departure from
some of the behaviours of
those seeking office in
other electorates.
I congratulate Philip
Ruddock for his victory
and wish him well. I also
congratulate the Monthly
Chronicle for your fair
treatment of the election.
Your profiling of all the
local candidates during
the campaign was incisive
and unbiased.
Well done everyone.

tobacco, medicines, foods,
drinks, caffeine and
herbal remedies and an
expert panel will decide
what is exempt.
18-year-old Henry Kwan
leapt from a balcony in
Sydney despite the frantic
attempts of his mother and
sister to restrain him after
he took a synthetic drug.
His hallucinations made
him want to fly - literally.
In several other states such
as Queensland and South
Australia, numerous
deaths have been reported
due to synthetic drugs.
Henry’s family would have
done anything to save him
and want to protect other
families from experiencing
the same tragic loss due to
drugs. Education is a key
tool to back law
enforcement and can be
done by all parents in the
home.
Synthetic drug dealers
are no different to those
peddling heroin or
cocaine – they make a
fortune at the expense of
lives. They don’t care
about the human cost –
for them it is just a
business enterprise.
Critics might say that
banning drugs doesn’t
work, but already statistics
have shown that the
interim bans on synthetic
drugs have produced
positive results in
protecting the health of
young people. NSW
Minister for Mental Health
Kevin Humphries
announced that since June
the number of people

and able to face the world
without being drugged.
