TA: Could you describe the difference between healing and curing as you so eloquently wrote about in the first edition of Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom? CN: Curing is what we expect drugs and surgery to do. So let’s say that you have chronic pelvic pain and you remove the uterus and the pain goes away. So you have ‘cured’ the chronic pelvic pain. You have not healed it. Because to heal it, you must go back and acknowledge the emotions, the pain, the feelings associated with chronic pelvic pain. Healing something is seeing the fullness of what it is caused by and then releasing it at the cellular level. You can give medication to mask symptoms and you can do surgery and remove things, but these do not ‘heal’ anything. I like to use medicine and/or surgery and emotional work together- which achieves curing and healing at the same time. So let’s say that you’re having surgery for a huge ovarian cyst (as a friend of mine did). She did a huge amount of healing around her relationship with her father; had a whole ceremony around going into surgery and released the ovary. When she came out on the other end, she was completely healed and cured! TA: Dr. Northrup, here is one more of my favorite quotes of yours. Can you speak to it? CN: “Adequate is not optimal.” That comes very specifically from the Vitamin D research. There are many other nutrients for which we could say the same thing. When people look at the RDA (recommended daily allowance for a nutrient) what you are looking at is a figure that the government determined that would prevent a gross deficiency disease. So if you take 400 IU of vitamin D (which has been the RDA for years), you will not get rickets, but you will not have high enough levels to have optimal health; nor would your immunity be strong enough to prevent breast or bowel cancer or interact with heart health. So when you look at optimal for Vitamin D, it’s looking like the amount you need to take is 5000 IU daily. The new discussion for nutrition is optimal instead of adequate nutrition. We have moved from the idea from preventing deficiencies to what would be truly ideal, not just getting by. TA: Dr. Northrup, is there anything else that you would like my readers to know about? You’re already standing in it, Part I By Jennifer Vaitkus, White Horse Recently, I was in England on a Sacred Sites Tour and one of our stops was of course, Stonehenge. This tour focused on feeling the energy of the sacred sites. Our own Spirit Guides also shared information about the sites. According to one Guide, Stonehenge was one of the planet’s many Portals, an energetic doorway into this dimension. Information from my guide, Sophia came through and she said that while Stonehenge is indeed a portal, the most powerful portals of all were our very own bodies. At that moment I knew I needed to know more and that it would turn out to be an important theme in my life. In a later meditation, Sophia began with saying that the human body is EXTREMELY powerful beyond what we now know. But before we understand the potential of our bodies, we must reclaim them. We must be present in our bodies and know that our physicality is Divine, in ALL forms. Many of us reject our bodies by continuously finding fault with them; they are “not strong enough”, “not healthy enough”, “always in pain”, “not attractive enough”, etc. Many of us are constantly operating from our minds and go for hours forgetting that our bodies exist. Some of us are so detached from our bodies that hours become years. If the first step to understanding the power of the human body is to reclaim it and be present in it, what can you do to facilitate this? Take time to listen and your body WILL tell you what it needs. I know that through dance, I am in my body and know my Divinity. Next time, I’ll continue with what I’ve learned from Goddess Sophia about the unseen power of our human bodies and where they can take us.
