present for high dependency care, movement within hospitals, between hospitals and NHS Board
boundaries.

For emergency episodes, children were predominantly admitted from either home (26%) or an A&E
department (25%). The same ward/other ward category indicates children moving between wards
within hospitals and only 495 (9%) were transferred from another hospital. Admissions from shortstay
wards (9%) reflect local care pathways, not all Level 3 and 4 Hospitals operate short stay
wards for assessment and review.
