FAREWELL RECEPTION<br />

On a lovely balmy <strong>Shanghai</strong> even<strong>in</strong>g, graciously hosted by Liz and<br />
Brendan Jenn<strong>in</strong>gs, <strong>RAS</strong> members gathered to pay tribute and<br />
celebrate the contribution of three Council members who between<br />
them have notched up over 50 years <strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a. Neale and Simon,<br />
along with Peter’s wife Susan and daughter Sasha, were presented<br />
with copies of Colours and Characters of Ch<strong>in</strong>a, as a token ‘thank you’<br />
for their wonderful support to <strong>RAS</strong>. Peter has been the driv<strong>in</strong>g force central to<br />
the development of the <strong>Society</strong> s<strong>in</strong>ce it reconvened <strong>in</strong> 2007. In recognition of<br />
this, Peter was honoured and appo<strong>in</strong>ted HONORARY VICE PRESIDENT,<br />
<strong>RAS</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a and President Katy Gow, presented him with a Silver P<strong>in</strong> of “Tug”<br />
the stone lion which had been chosen <strong>in</strong> 2007 to be the <strong>RAS</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a<br />
logo. This represents a l<strong>in</strong>k between the former North Ch<strong>in</strong>a Branch<br />
of the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Asiatic</strong> <strong>Society</strong> (NCB<strong>RAS</strong>) and the newly reconvened<br />

“Tug” after senior architect George<br />
Leopold Wilson (1880-1967) who<br />
was familiary known by this name.<br />

Tess Johnston & Jan Flohr all<br />
spoke highly of Peter’s contribution<br />
and Brendan raised a glass to toast<br />
all three and say Thank You and Bon<br />
Voyage as they leave <strong>Shanghai</strong> for<br />
far off shores. It was a very special<br />
even<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
