A fine impression in fine condition aside from a few skillfully repaired surface nicks and paper imperfections, with full margins. $5,000 Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Italian (1720-1799). Portrait of Clement XIII, 1761. Etching, 19 x 13 1/4 inches. Focillon 928, Taschen 436. Signed in plate: “I. B. Piranesius inventi” and lower right: “D. Cunego et Piraneseus sculpsevunt”. Most likely, Piranesi etched the architecture and Cunego (1726-1803) etched the portrait. Jacques Callot, French (1592-1635). La Pendaison (The Hanging) from the series Les Misères et les mal-heurs de la Guerre (The Miseries and the Misfortunes of War), 1633. Signed in plate: “Callot imp. et fec.” Etching, 3 1/4 x 7 3/8 inches. Lieure 1349, State iii/III, printed c. 1742. Watermark : “1742”. A fine impression in fine condition aside from mild toning with wide (3/8 inch) margins. $12,000 for the complete set of seventeen etchings and a frontispiece (Lieure 1339-1356). Callot’s Misères et les mal-heurs de la Guerre was first published in Paris in 1633 by the well-known printer Israel Henriet. Ten of the eighteen impressions in this set are from the second state of three, indicated by the publisher’s name inscribed in the plate. These impressions were printed on Hachet paper c.1633, and are especially fine and crisp. The last plate in the series is from the third state of four (from the same printing as the second state of the other plates, and just as fine). Seven of the impressions (including the one illustrated above) are from the third state of three, printed c. 1742. The original publisher’s name was removed on the third state plates and replaced with the artist’s. Although not quite as fine as second state impressions, these third state impressions are very good. François Grenier, French (1793-1867). Napoléon, 1841. Etching, 7 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches. Lithograph, 9 7/8 x 8 3/8 inches. Signed in plate: “Z. Belliard”. BNF Inventaire Après 1800, v.2 p. 133 #17. <strong>Print</strong>ed by Delpech. A fine impression in fine condition with full margins. $450 Hortense de Beauharnais was Napoléon Bonaparte's step-daughter by Joséphine de Beauharnais. Hortense and Napoléon had an affair that resulted in the birth of an illegitimate child, Napoléon-Charles.
