James A.M. Whistler, American, (1834-1903). The Storm, 1861. Etching, 6 3/8 x 11 1/4 inches. Signed in plate: “Whistler”.
Kennedy 81, State ii/II (with cancellation lines). Kennedy describes four lifetime impressions before the cancellation of
the plate, but there may be a few more in existance. The cancellation proofs still print well and are rare. This proof matches
the quality of the Dowdeswell cancellation proof at the Boston Public Library—the latter on van Gelder paper. This proof
is a fine impression on old French green paper with plate tone and retroussage and still printing with some burr, in fine
condition except for a small paper loss in the extreme upper left and lower right corners of the full margins. $12,000
James A.M. Whistler, American (1834-1903). Fulham
[England], c. 1878. Etching, 5 3/16 x 8 inches. Signed
with butterfly monogram. Kennedy 182, State ii/II. A
fine impression on heavy japan paper with delicate plate
tone in fine condition aside from very slight mat toning
with exceptionally wide margins. $1,800
Seymour Haden, British (1818-1910). Whistler's
House, Old Chelsea [London, England], 1863. Etching
and drypoint, 6 7/8 x 13 1/8 inches. Signed in pencil:
“Seymour Haden”. Schneiderman 50, State vii/VII. A
fine impression in fine condition aside from a fragment
missing from the left margin, with good margins. $2,500
James McBey, Scottish, (1883-1959). Amsterdam from
Ransdorp, 1910. Etching, 4 15/16 x 9 inches. Signed
in pencil: “James McBey”. Hardie 74, edition of 40. A
fine impression in fine condition with full margins. $650
19
Frederick Childe Hassam, American (1859-1935). The
Chimneys, Portsmouth [New Hampshire], 1915. Etching,
4 15/16 x 8 3/16. Signed in pencil with monogram.
Cortissoz 16. A fine impression in fine condition aside
from very slight mat toning with full margins. $2,100
