Brake Noise Elimination System 

The Brake Noise Elimination System 

is an Integrated approach for solving 

brake-noise problems. The system features a 

step-by-step sequence utilizing a combination 

of high-performance cleaners, lubricants and 

other brake protection products.

The Brake Noise Elimination System 

Applications: When implemented for either 

disc or drum brake noise, this system corrects 

such problems as metal-to-metal chirps, rough 

braking, side pulls, pad/shoe squeals, etc. 

How to use the system: Simply follow the next 

six steps, utilizing the recommended brake 

products as indicated. 

1) Disassemble and clean: After removing 

pads/linings, sand the friction surface with 

a light to medium grit paper to remove the 

glaze on used parts. Then spray Kent’s One Shot 

Plus on the pad/lining surface to remove all 

contaminants and let dry for 1-2 minutes. 

2) Apply Brake Silencer: On disc brake pads, 

brush or spray on a medium coat of Brake 

Silencer, allow to dry and apply a second 

medium coat; on drum brake shoes apply only 

one medium coat of Brake Silencer. 

3) Lube brake hardware: While silencers dry 

in step 2, clean metal-to-metal contact points 

with One Shot Plus and lubricate with brushtop 

Brake Plate Lube or Rusty 2000. 

4) Lube piston seals/boots: If boots and seals 

are still usable, clean them with One Shot Plus, 

then lube them with K-44 Silicone Lubricating 

Compound. Always replace deteriorated parts 

for safety’s sake. 

5) Reassemble: As soon as surfaces are 

completely dry, reassemble and reinstall the 

brakes. 

6) Road test to check: To ensure proper 

adjustment and brake response, always road 

test the vehicle per standard recommended 

procedures.

How To Tell The Difference Between Positive And Negative Rake Lathe Bits 

Positive Rake 

These brake bits have angled sides, and generally only have three cutting 

points. If you would set a positive rake brake bit on its side, it would not 

stand straight. This is because the rake (cutting angle) is built into the brake 

bit.

Negative Rake 

These brake bits have straight (no angle) sides, and generally have six 

cutting points. You have three cutting points on one side, and then turn the 

bit over for three more cutting points. If you set a negative rake bit on its 

side, the bit would stand straight. This is because the rake (cutting angle) is 

built into the brake bit tool holder.
