Our Commitment to Youth Members 82 Bugetmania! Game for High School Students Teenage students at the St. Joseph’s Villa Avalon School had a chance to contemplate real-life budgeting questions as they participated in an interactive game called Budgetmania!, conducted by staff from The Summit Federal Credit Union. Participating students were assigned an occupation and received his or her monthly income in play money. Job Shadowing Program Students from The Community Place of Greater Rochester The Summit has hosted a number of job shadowing events where teens and atrisk youth learn about job skills and it what it takes to succeed in a business setting. We have held these sessions at our branches and at our corporate headquarters in an effort to reach as many high-school age kids as possible. Our staff has volunteered their Avalon School students participating in Budgetmania! with the help of The Summit’s staff. The students then moved through a variety of “stations” that mimic the real-life financial choices and challenges they may encounter in a typical month. They had to make many tough choices based on the amount of money they made and had already spent. The best news of all, not one student overspent their budget! time and talent to help them get a glimpse of the education and skills needed for specific credit union jobs. Job Shadowing Program 8
The Communities Our Commitment to We Serve Through direct financial support or other in-kind contributions to worthwhile local organizations in all markets served, and by participating in public service activities, The Summit Federal Credit Union strives to be an active partner in our community. United Way CASH/VITA Program Chicken BBQ at Corporate Headquarters to benefit Eastman Commons The Summit Federal Credit Union has partnered with The United Way of Greater Rochester’s CASH/VITA program assisting underserved residents in this area. CASH stands for Creating Assests, Savings, and Hope. VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. The Credit Union has a variety of unique programs that help members in their daily financial lives. Volunteers from The Summit staff helped hundreds of participants complete their tax returns at no charge and also counseled people on strategies for savings, home ownership, and the establishment/repair of their credit. We also reached out to over 200 unbanked participants and brought them into The Summit’s membership family, an achievement we’re very proud of. Deep Community Roots The values that The Summit Federal Credit Union was founded on is as enduring today as the day we first began serving members.
