(39873) CNG/KSP
Machine Owned Keys
Need To Be Visible By
Multiple Machines In
Server 2008 Cluster
H
Problem: When a key pair is created by CertServices on Server 2008, the key pairs
are created as machine-owned keys making them visible only to the Server 2008
machine where they were generated. This is by design and this behavior should
continue. However, if the CertServices application is within a Windows cluster, then
the keys must be made visible to the other machines in the cluster. A utility program
must be written to make the keys visible.
An extended key attribute representing the owner machine of the key is stored without
a terminating NULL. This is not a problem for the KSP DLL, however the "ksputil" did
not account for this.
Fixed. Modified the "ksputil" to take into account the lack of trailing NULL for some
extended key attributes.
