In an attempt to better manage our finances, the district is making a commitment
to “going green” this school year. We will be utilizing electronic
forms of communication to send important information to parents and
guardians. You will be kept fully informed through the EHS website, periodic
Enews Alerts, and the AlertNow call out system. I encourage each of
you to review the information contained in this newsletter, and sign up to
receive the electronic version of this newsletter and Enews Alerts. In addition,
you can access your child’s academic, attendance, and discipline information
by signing up for Home Access Center in the high school main
office. Because we will not be mailing report cards or interim progress reports
home this school year, HAC will be your only method for obtaining
your child’s grades. By signing up, you will have instant access to all of
your child’s grades on a daily basis. If you do not have access to the
internet, you will be provided an opportunity to opt in to our limited mailing
process. Later this fall, information for doing so will be sent to any household
not yet signed up for Home Access Center.
As always, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
If you have an issue related to your child’s class, please contact
the teacher directly. If you have other questions or concerns, you should
contact your child’s guidance counselor or grade level
assistant principal. If you are not satisfied at either level, please feel free
to contact me at 610-965-1650.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
Home Access Center (HAC) Update
Thank you to all of the parents who have stopped by the Main Office to drop off
their Home Access Center (HAC) applications and have their identification verified.
You should have received a packet in the mail that included your sign-on information
and instructions.
Home Access Center (HAC) is a web based application that allows authorized parents and/or
guardians access to their child’s school information. In order to access HAC, a user needs a working
computer, Internet access and a web browser.
Home Access Center can allow access to information such as: demographics, medical, transportation,
contacts, schedule, attendance, discipline, Interim Progress Reports, report cards and live
gradebook.
If you have already received a login and password for an East Penn student, you will not need to
complete any further registration material.
If you’ve lost or misplaced your Home Access Center (HAC) password, please do the following:
Key Club News
As the school year starts up again, Emmaus High School's Key Club is preparing
for a fantastic new year. Key Club serves as one of the community's biggest
and most known community service clubs, where members are consistently volunteering their
time to serve others. As a non-profit organization, we encourage and motivate high school students
to join hands and help not only make a difference in the Emmaus community, but internationally.
Emmaus Key Club is a younger version of the Emmaus Kiwanis Club, but they both share the mission
to serve others, build character, and develop leadership.
Through past years, Key Club has helped organizations such as Caitlin's Smiles, Hearts for Haiti,
Lehigh Valley Cops N' Kids, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and many more. Key Club has
participated in many activities such as Iron Pigs events hosted by Cops N' Kids, Special Olympics,
and Pasta for Pennies. We have also served our high school and the Emmaus community in many
events such as cleaning up the football stadiums after games, collecting books for underprivileged
children, selling hot chocolate, and making school-spirited scare crows!
Key Club meets every Thursday, in Café 1, right after school at 2:45 pm. We welcome all students
in all grades to come join us to see what upcoming volunteer opportunities we have available for
everyone. For questions, any Key Club officer or our advisors, Ms. Teles-Carl and Mrs. Wells, are
available for help in room 365!
Heemali Kamdar, Key Club Editor
Steel Hornets Robotics Club
Mr. Bradley is pleased to announce that the Robotics Club is running again this
year, and he is looking for go-getters who are interested in building and competing
All students who are interested should contact Mr. Bradley in Room 401 as soon as possible.
This year will be bigger and better than last year, and last year was pretty good! Hopefully we can
make it to the World Championships in St. Louis this year!!
Math Tutoring
The math department teachers are able to offer math tutoring for all students most
periods during the school day. Students can check schedules posted in all of the
math classrooms to determine room locations for tutoring sessions. The students can obtain presigned
passes from their math teachers, or they can get a pass to the tutoring locations from their
study hall teachers. Each math teacher works with his/her students, but this math tutoring schedule
offers an alternative for students when they cannot match their schedules with their classroom
teachers.
Emmaus High School Parent Volunteer Organization
STEP is a volunteer group of parents in East Penn that
sponsors activities to encourage our youth to have fun without
the use of drugs or alcohol. Members of STEP include
parents, teachers, administrators and citizens of East Penn
School District.
STEP Activities….
Our group of volunteers teams with the EHS Student Government
Association, freshmen orientation, September tailgate
party, homecoming dance, snowball dance, and the EHS Final
Fling. These events provide a wonderful opportunity for parent
volunteers to participate at school wide events.
STEP Sponsored Event of the Year
SENIOR AFTERBALL PARTY: Saturday, April 28, 2012
This event is an all night theme party open to all seniors at EHS. We plan this event to offer an alternative
to individual after prom parties. Last year’s event had 600 + students attend with another
ACCIDENT FREE PROM SEASON. It includes food, a casino, game shows, carnival
games, a full size miniature golf course, a DJ, massages, air brush tattoos, and huge prizes. One
lucky senior won a CAR last year! This event is funded strictly by donations and run entirely by
volunteers. Over 250 volunteers made this event a huge success!!
Volunteers are urgently needed, especially underclassmen parents!
We need your help on several committees; co-chair positions are available.
NEXT meeting: OCTOBER 17, 2011
STEP meetings are scheduled on the 3rd Monday of most months during the school year. Meetings
start at 6:30 pm in room 353 at EHS and last only ONE hour! Attendance is voluntary.
To join STEP, please complete a membership form, which can be found at www.eastpennsd.org/
ehs/ . Select “programs,” and the STEP link can be found in the left column. The membership form
can be printed from there. Once complete, please send in or drop off in the EHS Main Office.
**Please note that all communication is distributed by group email **
Local Police Premise Alert Opportunity
Have you ever worried about what would happen if your child with
special needs encountered an emergency? What information about
your child would be helpful to first responders?
Your local police departments are pleased to announce Premise Alert — an opportunity for families
to provide a uniform method to alert first responders about individuals with special needs. It also provides
first responders with advance knowledge, allowing for quick and educated responses during
crises, evacuations, and disasters. The Premise Alert form can be found on the district website in
the following location: www.eastpennsd.org,
Community tab, Forms, then Student Services.
Who can use it?
Anyone who has a special need, health challenge or disability such as, but not limited to, Alzheimer’s
Disease, Autism, Mental Health Challenges, Intellectual Disability, a complex or rare
medical condition, who would like first responders such as police, ambulance and fire department
to know of their special needs.
Who can fill out this form?
Individuals with special needs can fill it out for themselves
Parents of minor children
Guardians of minor children
Current Foster Care parents (child’s name isn’t required)
Those with LEGAL guardianship for another
Those with the Power of Attorney for another
If you do not have a legal right to provide this information, you should NOT fill out this form or provide
this information.
Do I have to fill it out?
No, it is VOLUNTARY. You do not have to provide any information you do not want First Responders
to know or use.
How do I use the form?
Fill out the form with as much information as you would want shared with emergency first responders,
sign it, and then return a copy to your child’s teacher and the school will send all forms
in to the local police department or you may mail it back to your local police department. The information
will be put into the police system for future use.
make changes in the information, just fill out another form and submit it. Any of the police departments
