SPEAKOUT
High powered rounds = locked breech
(think: 9mm, .45 ACP, .40 S&W, etc.).
Low powered rounds = blowback
(think: .22, .25, .32, .380 and a very
rare few 9mm models in the past). But
there’s lots more to this! RH
Original Reader
In 1976 I spotted a new magazine on
the rack in a Salem, Mo. drugstore. It
had the bold word “Handgunner” on the
front cover and a feature story on the
P-38. I knew I was a handgunner and
had just bought a P-38 so I bought that
first copy. I still have it. I became a subsriber
and believe I still have most of
the issues since that first. Great photos,
great articles and great opinions since
then. I’ve been pleased!
Wants To Learn
I want to learn as much as I can
about all of the aspects of handguns
and target shooting (right now I am at
25 yards). Proper techniques with semiautos
and revolvers, the best handguns
for target shooting, is there a difference
in ammo for successful shooting, and
just about everything.
The difficulty I have encountered is
where to go or where to find someone
to coach me in this pursuit. I called
the NRA, but they had no suggestions.
Maybe it was the person to whom I
spoke? It may be why there are those
people you described in your column
one time. They, like me, really want
to learn — but often can’t find the
resources. I have been to five gun shops
in the St. Louis area and have asked
for suggestions/recommendations and
it’s like pulling teeth. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
