on one side). The single-bevel knife
designs provide a strong, sharp edge
easy to sharpen in the field. With the
single-bevel you only have to sharpen
one side and lightly strop the other.
The other advantages of a singlebevel
edge are ease of notching when
making joints for lean-tos, shelters, etc,
combined with the overall strength of
a chisel-style bevel. It’s very efficient
for building sniper hides, lean-tos, and
dead-fall traps. It also works well for
door breaching and shimming. The
Warrior is available in 3.5", 5.5" and
7.5" blade lengths, and is available with
or without teeth.”
The Suenami series (named after
Mike’s better half) is a compact utility
fighter available in 4", 5" and 7" blade
lengths available in either single or
saber ground iterations. Like many of
Grayman’s knives, the Suenami has a
re-curved blade edge which not only
adds to its slicing length but has that
nice flare at the tip giving extra weight
for chopping. If you want small, check
out the Dinka series. These knives,
available with 3" and 4" blade options,
are perfect as survival back-ups or
single carry performers for casual outings.
Grayman offers other model variations
such as the Pemburu, Defender,
and Merdeka — all built with the knifemaker’s
tank-like construction.
Troop-Revered
It’s not surprising Grayman’s knives
are revered by our troops in the Middle
East, and worldwide for that matter.
Regardless of model, all of Grayman’s
knives are overbuilt to take on any task
under extreme duress. A recent e-mail
from the Sandbox offered this insight:
“I was the gunner on the RG. Short
version of the story, my squad leader
was able to cut me out of the turret with
my 4" Suenami that was attached to
my IOTV, and drag me to the doc to
get patched up. So I just wanted to say
thanks, it saved my life!”
Equally as important to the overwhelming
majority of our troops is the
Grayman affordability factor. Prices
start at $125 for the small Dinkas
and top out at $410 for the large Sub-
Saharan. The massive Mega Pounder
is priced at an extremely reasonable
$235. These prices are a breath of fresh
air compared to many handmades,
so it’s no wonder they’re hot sellers
among our fighting men and women.
They say all great things come from
humble beginnings. You won’t find a
fancy tang stamp on Grayman’s knives.
Each knife just has his name handscribed
on the back spine of the handle.
Everything you need is
in the knife!
