WVU Bariatrics is a comprehensive surgical weight 

loss program with a strong multidisciplinary focus on 

pre-surgery education and post-operative success.

Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery 

The Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Division 

performs more than 750 open-heart procedures and 

300 thoracic surgical procedures annually. WVU is the 

only institution in the region that performs minimally 

invasive mitral valve repair and the pediatric cardiac 

surgery program is the only program offering cardiac 

surgery for children in the state. 

General and Endocrine Surgery 

The General Surgery Division is the largest within the 

Department of Surgery. Surgeons offer expertise 

in all aspects of general surgical care and perform 

than 2,500 procedures annually. Additionally, General 

Surgery faculty members provide 24-hour surgical 

coverage for emergencies.

Hand Surgery 

WVU’s hand surgeons perform a range of procedures 

and offer expertise in all hand disorders such as injuries, 

arthritic conditions, carpal tunnel, acute trauma, 

tendon disorders, tendon and nerve repairs and reimplantations. 

This division offers 24-hour coverage of 

all hand and wrist emergencies and referrals.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery 

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Division 

performs a full range of cosmetic and reconstructive 

surgeries for patients from around the state and 

region. Surgeons perform more than 600 cosmetic 

surgeries annually. Additionally, surgeons also work to 

correct defects caused by injury, surgery, or congenital 

conditions.

The Division of Surgical Oncology provides surgical 

treatment of cancer in a comprehensive multimodality 

team that includes chemotherapy and radiation

Urology 

The Division of Urology’s primary focus includes 

urologic oncology, female urology, urinary tract stone 

disease, and voiding dysfunction. The division has also 

launched programs in brachytherapy for prostate and 

kidney cancer, in laparoscopic and robotic urology, and 

in sacral neuromodulation.

Vascular and Endovascular Surgery 

The Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery 

offers a wide variety of traditional open surgical procedures 

for the treatment of carotid, aneurysmal, 

peripheral arterial occlusive disease, and dialysis access 

construction. Minimally invasive surgery is also 

conducted including: diagnostic angiography, endovascular 

aneurysm repair, peripheral arterial intervention, 

carotid artery angioplasty and stent placement, dialysis 

access intervention and endovenous RF/laser closure 

of varicose veins.
