President Tylenda called the regularly scheduled meeting of the Associated Students Government senate to order
at 1:33 p.m. in the Administration Board Room.

President
President Tylenda reminded the Senate of the following committee
meetings scheduled in the Administration Board Room for this week:
‣ College Council will be meeting today, Monday at 2:30 p.m.
President Tylenda, Senators Armenta and Ibarra will be attending.
NOTE: Senators Armenta and Counce will be replacing former
Senators, Andrea Montaño and Rudy Robles on this committee.
Senator Ibarra has been assigned as the alternate.
‣ The Board Agenda Review Group scheduled last week was
rescheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 3:00
p.m. Senator Curiel will be attending.
Appointment of Secretary
Senate Vacancies
I.V. Transit
M/S/C (Garcia/Solano) to appoint Senator Armenta as the new Secretary
for the remaining of the semester
Congratulations to Senator Armenta!
President Tylenda will be appointing two students, during next week’s
meeting, to fill the vacancies on the Senate.
President Tylenda thanked Senator Solano and VP Reyes for voicing IVC
Students’ transit needs so eagerly. Due to their participation in the IV
Transit Hearing and the Calexico City Council meetings, IVC Students
now have an additional transit bus departing from Calexico at 7:00 a.m.

and arriving on campus at approximately 7:45 a.m. daily. Click here to

President Tylenda stated that there will be an I.V. Transit Forum this
coming Tuesday, February 19, 2013 in the College Center during
College Hour. IVC Students will have an opportunity to voice their
concerns and whether the new bus route is meeting student’s needs.
Publicity regarding this forum should be up and running this week.
President Tylenda also stated that the CART (Continuous Accreditation
Readiness Team) Forum will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013 and
Thursday, February 28, 2013 in the College Center during College
Hour. Senators assigned to this forum must meet with Vice President
for Academic Services, Ms. Kathy Berry this Thursday, February 14,
2013 at 12 Noon in her office.
Vice President
Elections
VP Reyes informed the ASG that he received a text message from
Calexico Council Member, Mr. John Renison yesterday informing him
of the new bus route to IVC.
Sweetheart Elections were held last week. Election Officer Lopez
stated that a total of 167 students voted. The Sweetheart winner will be
announced during the Men’s Basketball Game. The game will be this
Friday, February 15, 2013 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Gym. Coronation
will be held during half-time.
Commissions
Activities The Talent Show has been scheduled for Thursday, March 28, 2013.
After a brief discussion whether an IVC Idol might work better than a
Talent Show, Activities Commission was undecided. The Senate will
discuss this item during their Planning meeting on Wednesday.
Affairs
Health Fair 3/14/13
Athletics
Secretary Armenta reminded everyone to meet at the Office of Student
Affairs this Friday, February 15 no later than 12 Noon for the
Sweetheart event’s set up. The ASG will be picking up the helium tank
this Wednesday.
Senator Beltran stated that there will be a meeting held tomorrow,
Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Office of Student
Affairs, to discuss the upcoming Health Fair scheduled in March.
Rosanna Lugo will also be attending to help the Affairs Commission
with this event.
Senator Ibarra announced the upcoming Sports events this week at
IVC:
The Men’s Basketball team will be playing against Miramar
College this Friday, February 15, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
Cultural
VP Reyes stated that Music Instructor, Dr. Van Decker and Political
Science Instructor, Mr. Kevin White have confirmed their participation
in this year’s Black History Celebration scheduled for Thursday,
February 21, 2013 in the College Center during College Hour.

It was motioned and seconded by the Cultural Commission to approve
$200 in expenditures for the Black History Celebration event.
Discussion: The approval includes cookies, tea, decorations and food
for the presenters. Dean Lopez suggested presenting a gift card to both
Dr. Decker and Mr. White for taking time during their busy schedules
to present during the event. The motion carried without further
discussion.
Publicity
The Publicity Commission will be researching the purchase of a new
set of paints and brushes as the ones currently in stock are old and dry.
Other Committees
Finance
The Finance meeting scheduled last week on February 5, 2013 had to
be rescheduled. The Finance Committee will be meeting tomorrow,
Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 12 Noon in the Student Affairs
Conference Room.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Marketing (Increase Enrollment)
SLO’s Committee – Appointment
President Tylenda stated that a few questions pertaining to the transit
and College Hour were added to the Marketing Survey. Dean Lopez
stated that the survey will be available to students no later than this
Wednesday, February 13, 2013.
Senator Lopez was appointed to the Student Learning Outcomes
(SLO’s) Committee. She will be attending the first meeting this
Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the 2700 Building (Math
Department Conference Room – Room 2770).

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Senators
Senator Armenta stated that Region X has kicked off Imperial Valley
College from the region. President Tylenda received an email from
Region X’s President, Alex Neofitidis notifying her that due to the
excessive absences from IVC’s Student Representative, IVC has been
removed from the Senate. President Tylenda will be replying and
requesting the dates that IVC has missed the meetings. Senator
Armenta stated that she didn’t attend last week’s meeting due to the
inclement, weather which it made the travel up to San Diego
dangerous.

ADJOURNMENT
President Tylenda again reminded everyone to attend this Friday’s
Sweetheart Coronation Event.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 20,
2013 at 1:30 p.m. in the Student Affairs Conference Room.
Note: Campus will be CLOSED on Monday, February 18, 2013
(President’s Day).
