Health & Food:
Create food co-operatives providing lifestyle education, apprenticeships,
subsequent jobs & subsidised fruit & veg
To stay healthy we need to eat more fruit and veg. Money spent in supermarkets
goes out of the region to corporations based in the South East. Sustainable local
agriculture can serve the local community at a reduced cost.
Transporting fresh produce impacts the environment & reduces quality and
nutrition. Technological innovations allow indoor cultivation providing all year round
produce.
Vertical growing, aquaponics and solar powered LEDs are the future!
We will:
· Create a pilot ‘closed loop’ aquaponics agriculture system and develop
methods of good practice for vertical growing in semi-urban and domestic
gardens across Blyth Valley
· Distribute produce from community shops based in Blyth, Seaton Valley and
Cramlington.
· Create agricultural apprenticeships and both manufacturing and installation
jobs around the indoor aquaponics sector.
