What a treat we have in store for you!
Come experience the artistic drama of this
very contemporary calligrapher. Nancy is a
highly acclaimed and sought after artist, well
known for her exquisite decorated letters and
colorful works of art. She has been doing art
work from a young age with crayons, inks,
paints, pens, wax and paste.
After art school she focused on her love of
lettering as a means to teach creative expression
at museums, colleges, workshops and calligraphy
conferences. Her classes are always among
the most sought after at annual conferences.
Her work is published and exhibited widely in
public and private collections including
Harvard and Duke Universities, Wellesley
College and the University of Utah.
Please plan to join us for COLOR IT LUSCIOUS
as we explore colored pencil techniques with
Nancy Culmone. Her class will explore traditional
artist’s methods of working with colored pencils
as well as some new tricks. You will learn color
blending, shading, hatching, layering, how to
create textures, the way pencils respond to a
variety of papers, fine detail work, and bold
applications. Her plethora of practice exercises
will include working within, around, and on top
of letterforms. You will create small technique
sample books and many experiments using pencil
by itself and in combination with other media.
This workshop is for those who are eager to
develop their skill or expand into this exciting
medium. All levels are welcome.

SUPPLY LIST
$12.00 materials fee for miscellaneous papers,
handouts and supplies.
36 or more Prismacolor pencils -Artists
Quality! SHARPENED before class.
Be sure to get the pencils in the black box -
NOT the scholar grade.
A smooth work surface- no bumps or
texture. A cut mat or smooth mat board or
even poster board measuring 12” x 14”.
A stylus, small knitting needle, or a dead
ball point pen. Dead ball point pens are
my favorite. I bring plenty to share.
Manual pencil sharpener- the kind with
replaceable blades.
White prismacolor pencil #938.
Any other pencils you ALREADY own
(Verithin, watercolor, Lyra, Derwent , etc.)
I use Prismacolor Verithin a lot and I will
be doing demos with them .
Black non-waterproof ink (like Higgins
Eternal).
Speedball C0 pen nib (or B0).
Any other wide pen nibs you ALREADY
have.
Regular supplies - pen holders, tape, pencil,
eraser, ruler, cut mat, tissues, small palette,
mix brush, water jar, scissors, snap off knife
(or Xacto knife), etc.
One tube gouache.
One sheet Canson or other paper for book
covers-(book is 9”x 13”) & 2 other papers
of your choice – 12” x 18” approx size.
OPTIONAL--Only if you already have on hand.
Electric pencil sharpener.
2 Large clips (like bulldog).
Favorite calligraphy papers.
Split Pens.
These Prismacolor pencils-- true blue-#903,
process red #994, light aqua #992, yellow
#915 or 916, indigo #901, brown #947 or 946.
Bag Lunch.
Pillow for chair (if desired).
Open mind and enthusiasm.
Workshop reservations are determined by postmark dates and seats go first to CoC Board Members
who are guaranteed admittance as long as their reservation is received postmarked by the deadline,
then to General Membership, and then to non-members as determined by established Workshop
Guidelines.
