KURUNJANG PRIMARY SCHOOL ~ “Learning Together”
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
1. STUDENT ATTENDANCE
As part of the DEECD initiative It’s Not OK to Be Away
the class that has the best attendance each month is
awarded the BEE At School Award. This award consists of
a Bee pillow that remains in the class for the month as well
as a certificate that they can display in their room.
Congratulations to 3/4A for winning the Bee At School
Award for the month of April.
In addition to this, each classroom is keeping a tally of the
number of days that they have full attendance. When a
class reaches 10 full days the class is rewarded with 10
minutes extra play on the play equipment on a day and
time of their choice.
2. STAFFING
Miss Bridget Walsh has returned to our school to take up
the position as our PE teacher for the remainder of this
term before beginning her holiday overseas.
3. BOOK FAIR
This week we hosted a Scholastic Book Fair to help raise
funds to purchase books for the library, classroom libraries
and bookclub. Students have used their library time to
browse the books available for sale and make a wish list. It
was wonderful to see the eagerness of students to discuss
the books they liked. A visit by Geronimo the Mouse a
character from the series Geronimo Stilton also added to
the excitement of the fair.
Thank you to all those families who supported the event.
Thank you also to Mrs Notman and Mrs Frederick for
organising the fair.
4. BRING A COIN DAY
A reminder that tomorrow we are having a Bring A Coin
Day to help raise money for Eden. Eden is a Year 3 student
based at Coburn Primary school who is in need of a new
motorised wheel chair. Money raised will help Eden’s
parents to purchase this wheelchair.
5. CAMPS
The Year 5/6 teachers along with Mrs McInnes have been
very busy organising the Year 6 Camp to Angelsea that
will take place next week (Wednesday 6 th – Friday 8 th
June). In conjunction with this a non campers program has
been organised for those Year 6 students remaining at
school. The focus of both programs (camp and non camp)
is on student leadership and team building and involves the
support of the YMCA.
A representative from the YMCA will attend an information
(pre camp) session for students on Tuesday 5 th June at
11.45am. Parents are most welcome to attend.
The Year five camp to Sovereign Hill will take place in
August.
6. CROSS COUNTRY
On Wednesday, 22 students from our school competed in
the Melton District Cross Country event held at McPherson
Park. Congratulations to all students who participated for
their commitment to this event and the effort and
sportsmanship they displayed.

7. STUDENT LEADERSHP
Despite the weather, work continued on the GAGA pit on
Wednesday. Most students in the Art group have completed
their designs and this week began to paint their canvases.
8. REPORTS
Teachers are very busy assessing students and writing
reports. Students in Years 3-6 have been completing On
Demand Testing in both Literacy and Numeracy during their
ICT sessions to help support teacher assessment. On
Demand testing is similar to Naplan testing and is completed
on line. Reports will be given out in the last week of term.
9. KINDER-PREP TRANSITION PROGRAM
Eight students from our Music enrichment class along with
Miss Saxton and another member of staff have visited a
number of local kinders and child care centres this week.
These students have played a number of tunes on the
ukuleles as well as talked to the kinder children about what it
is they like about school. The students have been very keen
to perform and their enthusiasm has been wonderful to see.
Kinder and child care visits will continue next week.
10. COLDER WEATHER
Tomorrow is the first day of Winter. A reminder to all students
to bring a warm jacket and school beanie to wear outside
during recess and lunchtime.
11. TEACHER STOPWORK THURSDAY 7 TH JUNE
The AEU is organising a stop work meeting on Thursday 7 th
June. A letter will go home on Monday 4 th June notifying
parents of those teachers who will be participating in this stop
work action. Parents will be asked not to send students in
those classes to school on this day.

PREP GRADE
ENROLMENTS 2013
Parents who would like their
child/children to attend Prep grade
at Kurunjang Primary School in
2013 are invited to enrol their
children at the office. To be
eligible to enrol for Prep grade in
2013 your child must turn 5 years
of age by 30 th April 2013. You must provide proof of your
child’s age by presenting a birth certificate. For students who
were born overseas you must present their passport and visa
details. Immunisation certificates are also required and may
be posted to you on request by calling 1800653809. As the
immunisation certificate may take a little time to arrive we
suggest you get organised early and phone for your certificate
now.

MPSSA CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to all students who represented Kurunjang
Primary School at the MPSSA cross country event on
Wednesday the 30th of May. Thank you to Mrs Dianne
Picone and Mrs Kelly Thompson for their fantastic support
on the day. Special congratulations to Hope Brown who
came 4th in her event and will go on to represent the Melton
district next month.

KINDER TRANSITION VISITS
On Monday the 28th and Tuesday the 29th of May the Music
Enrichment group went to various kinders around Melton. It
was a fun experience letting them play our ukuleles.
Cheyenne Stanley played some flute and Matthew Roberts
played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. We sang Der Glumph went
the little green frog and Five little Ducks. It was really fun.

LEARNING AND PLAYING TOGETHER
PLAYGROUP
We have been having a wonderful time learning more about
animals and sea creatures at playgroup and getting to know
each other.
New members are welcome to join our playgroup.

CARTOON
WORKSHOP
On Wednesday 13 th
and Thursday 14 th
June there will be a
cartoon workshop
incursion for all
children in years
Prep - 2.
The workshops will be conducted by Richard Galbraith who
has been a professional writer, illustrator cartoonist and
storyteller for the past 27 years.
Richard’s workshops are designed to help students create
and draw cartoon characters and weave them into simple
stories. The workshops cover character creation,
expression, action, storylines, speech bubbles and colour.
The cost of this incursion is covered in the $42.50 Whole
School Performing Arts Levy that was paid with Book
Packs at the beginning of the year. For those who haven’t
paid the levy, the cost for this incursion will be $5.00. Notes
will be sent home to families who are required to pay for
this incursion and money must be returned by Friday 8 th
June.

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN IS
HAPPENING AGAIN IN 2012
The Woolworths Earn and Learn Program has begun
again. Every time you spend $10 you will receive a
sticker. Send these stickers along to school where they
can be placed in the containers in your child’s classroom.
These stickers will be collected each Friday. Sticker
cards are available at the office.
Thank you to the students who have returned Earn &
Learn stickers. To date we have collected 2,253 stickers.
BOOK CLUB ~ ISSUE 4
Issue 4 of Book Club will be delivered to classrooms on
Friday 1st June. All Book Club orders will need to be
returned to school by the following Friday 8th June. When
placing an order please make sure that your Child's name
and grade is completed on the order form and that the order
forms are returned to school in an envelope with their name
and grade written on it. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE
ACCEPTED.
BOOK FAIR
A big thank you to all KPS staff, children, parents and friends
who have supported our book fair in the library this week.
Special thanks to Geronimo Stilton and his assistant, Mrs
Mourkakos for their surprise visit to all of the classrooms
during the week. Many of the children had photos taken and
they will be on digital display in the front office next week.

OSHCLUB NEWS
OSHClub Kurunjang participated in the Biggest Afternoon
Tea. It was great to see our program support The Cancer
Council Foundation Australia. This is such a great cause and
a learning experience for our children to gain the
understanding of how raising money for such a worthy cause
can help the wider community. Leading up to this event the
children attending the program were involved in many
activities including decorating the Art Room, cooking activity
of savory twists also preparing for our special invited guests,
teaching staff and parents who attended our Biggest
Afternoon Tea. Thank you to all who made this a successful
event which was an enjoyable event shared by all.
