7. C<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong> and Recommendati<strong>on</strong>s:<br />

• Project was implemented in Pattanakkad Block, Cherthala Taluka, Alappuzha<br />

District, Kerala state, Peekay Tree crop foundati<strong>on</strong> as Project Implementing<br />

Agency (PIA).<br />

• Out of the total Geographical area (10774 hac), 395 ha was treated till 2009.<br />

• There were significant increases in the food, fire wood and Biodiversity within the<br />

coc<strong>on</strong>ut farming due to the project.<br />

• The Individual farmers appear to be good awareness <strong>on</strong> multi-tier and multi<br />

species cropping systems, livelihood activities, and agro-forestry and livestock<br />

development.<br />

• Mulching is comm<strong>on</strong> practice in every household. Which resulted in improve soil<br />

moisture and nutrient. Where as maintaining farm p<strong>on</strong>ds where found sparsely.<br />

• There is marginally an increase in the food, employment and household income<br />

through livestock keeping such as Poultry, rabbit and duck raring, goat and cow<br />

etc.<br />

• It was observed that every individual having throw knowledge <strong>on</strong> effective waste<br />

management, which was generated by different sources (household, animal and<br />

tree biomass).<br />

• During the evaluati<strong>on</strong> process, PIA and farmers suggested that the cost of finance<br />

per hectare should be increased, which could help community/ individual to treat<br />

each part of the land effectively.<br />

• Community organizati<strong>on</strong> comp<strong>on</strong>ent through formati<strong>on</strong> of SHGs, Farm clubs,<br />

trust and training centres have been the major strength of the project by way of<br />

developing them as a cohesive units to take up development works independently.<br />

• Training programmes organized for beneficiaries were made great impact <strong>on</strong><br />

household income, meanwhile supplying of improved tools and equipments<br />

increase employment opportunity, work efficiency and time (coir pith composting,<br />

coir spinning, catering, mushroom cultivati<strong>on</strong>, wood crafts and decorative etc)<br />

• Marginally increased income level and expenditure pattern proporti<strong>on</strong>ate to<br />

increase in assets showed positive impact of the project <strong>on</strong> socio-ec<strong>on</strong>omic<br />

indicators and the project also generated some awareness am<strong>on</strong>g the people in the<br />

project area.
