livestock and aquaculture in farmland brought tremendous improvement the food security,
household nutrients and income of individual household.
Apart from the ecological advantages it was also noticed that introduction of
verity crops, animals, birds and aquaculture in the coconut farm increases the net
household income from 400 USD to 600-700 USD/ha/house, where as time and input
increased considerably besides freeing coconut farmers from the risk involved in the
cultivation of monocrop. Promoting medicinally important species along with multi
purpose species in coconut farm helps in revitalization of ayurvedic medical system,
organic waste and biomass and, thereby, help to increase the per capita energy
consumption.
