PASTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Parishioners,
The lawyer in today’s gospel account was addressing questions to Christ. His motive appeared at first to be innocent but
really surfaced when he asked the question, “And who is my neighbor?” Certainly he was smart enough to know the answer to
that. It is evident, then, that he was asking the question to trip up Jesus. He wasn’t genuinely interested in hearing any answer Jesus
might have given. Questions are often asked with the result of complicating something that is quite simple. Or they are asked by
people who live life as if it’s a problem to be solved rather than a mystery to be lived.
Today’s first reading is directed at such. It says that the answers to some of life’s more basic questions are not found in
some distant, remote and mysterious place. Rather they are found quite near at hand. The passage from the Book of Deuteronomy
tells us that God’s expectations of us are clear and simple.
Children live life simply. They have simple questions and simple solutions to seemingly complex problems.
Observe them when they play games. They accept each other without guile, and simply presume that others
approach them in good faith. You have only to look at how adults play games to see how they complicate life.
It is by no accident that the numbers of referees and officials in our sporting events have multiplied in direct
proportion to the number of lawyers, courts, and judges we require in order to live with each other. It is adults
who end up living lives of depression and misery, and have migraine headaches. Children don’t live this way.
Many high school teachers repeated the following phrase over and over again: “Reduce and Simplify” while teaching
mathematics. What a great principle by which to live life in general.
The lawyer questioning Jesus in today’s gospel failed to grasp that this was the principle Jesus was giving him. Living life
was what the lawyer was trying to make quite complicated. Jesus was making it quite simple.
People today try another tactic. They try to minimize, to trivialize, religion in our culture. Substitute secular humanists
for the lawyers in today’s gospel. They are busily at work in America today trying to make religion appear to be irrelevant, trying
to minimize and ridicule the importance of religious values. It seems that humans, ancient as well as modern, are busily about the
task of keeping religion and God at a great distance away, safely up in some remote and distant heaven.
Many of the problems we face in our day are complex problems. Is a fetus a human person? When does life end in a dying
person? Medical/moral issues of our day are noted for their complexity. But, living life today is not any harder or easier than it
was when the Book of Deuteronomy was written or when, later on, Jesus was walking on this earth. Human nature has not changed
much since those days of long ago.
God bless you,
The Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph has decided to close their mission here at Corpus
Christi Parish. Sisters Ann Jose, Helen and Eleanor will be moving to the Motherhouse at Chestnut Hill. Sister
Barbara will be going to another convent.
Our parish is very grateful to the Congregation for their many years of dedicated service to this entire
community, especially to our children. In order to thank them more properly, we will be planning a “Thank You
Celebration” in the Fall for all the Sisters who have served here. The Sisters will be here at Corpus Christi for
most, if not all, of the Summer.
The Congregation will still have someone present on our staff as Parish Outreach Coordinator. Sister Mary Carol
McCaffrey will be replacing Sister Eleanor, but commuting from another convent.
The Vicar for Consecrated Life is assisting in the search for another small, religious community who is looking for housing
to possibly occupy our convent.
Once again we are saddened by this news and are thankful to the Sisters. They leave here with our gratitude for those who
have served and our prayers for the Congregation.
“Come, follow Me”…
Have you ever wondered about our Catholic faith - why we as Catholic Christians do the things we do?
Maybe you are a non-Catholic on a spiritual journey with our Lord or maybe you have never been baptized
or maybe you have been and would now like to come into full communion and be confirmed. Our Lord may
be calling you to “Come Home” to the Catholic faith – the faith instituted by Him. He is saying to you
“Come, follow Me”. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will be starting this fall. Here you
will learn about the faith and ultimately “Come Home” to the Catholic faith at Easter time. If anyone is
feeling the Lord is calling them to inquire, please contact Deacon Frank Langsdorf at 215-855-1311 x125 and leave a message.
We had two nominations for Pastoral Council and since we had two
openings, the two nominees were automatically given the positions on
Pastoral Council. The following are the bio’s which were submitted for
consideration.
Ryan Krapf
I joined Corpus Christi Parish in April of 2011 upon completing the RCIA program. In
October of the same year, I joined the Knights of Columbus here with Father Doyle Council
#9715 and completed my 3 rd Degree in February 2012. I currently live in Skippack Township
with my wife Kimberly, 4 year old daughter, Payton and 2 year old son, Joseph.
I have worked with Univest Corporation in Souderton since 2003 and outside of work, I have
a great enjoyment for Philadelphia sports, watching my kids grow and learn, getting a night
out with my wife for dinner, and being an assistant coach for the Harleysville Thunderbirds
girls travel softball team. My interest in joining the council would be to continue the
development of the parish and share with everyone, the gratefulness that I have gained in the
last two years since I joined the Catholic Church.
My name is Richard Ray and I am seeking to join the pastoral council for a
second three year term. I have been married to my wife Stacy for eighteen
years and we have two children. Our daughter Tabitha is 11and our son
Nicholas is 9. I am a local business owner in Lansdale and we have been
members of Corpus Christi for over fifteen years. I have served with several
ministries here at Corpus Christi over the past years. I am currently a 4 th
degree member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of the
Father John E Doyle Council. My wife Stacy and I are on the 50 th
Anniversary committee and we are also a presenting couple on the Parish’s
Pre-Cana Team.
I believe strongly in the words found in the parish mission statement and
have always tried to live my life by taking an active role in my faith and my
community. In the years that I have been a member of the parish, I have
seen its tremendous growth as a community center. I believe the cooperation
between ministries and parishioners along with pastoral leadership is the key
to this growth. I want to see our parish continue to grow in meeting the
spiritual and material needs of all parishioners, from the youth to the elderly,
through service both within and beyond our community.

First Reading: Deuteronomy 30:10-14 Moses petitions the
people to follow the commandments God has set before them.
He reminds them that the laws are not in the sky or far away at
sea, but are accessible to them and meant to be followed if they
wish to prosper.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 69:14,17,30-31,36-37 Turn to
the Lord in your need, and you will live.
Second Reading: Colossians 1:15-20 Paul discusses the
divine nature of Jesus, and explains that Jesus was created
before anything else. Everything else was “created through
Him, and for Him.”
Gospel: Luke 10:25-37 While discussing everlasting life, a
lawyer mentions loving one's neighbor as oneself. The lawyer
then asks Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus tells him about
a man beaten by robbers, who was ignored by both a priest and
a Levite before a Samaritan stopped and offered him aid. Jesus
asks the lawyer who was neighbor to the injured man. The
lawyer says “the one who treated him with compassion.” Jesus
encourages him to go and do the same.
Family Connection
Families rely on selfless love. Parents
show love for their children not just
when it's convenient, but whenever
their children's needs must be met.
Imagine if the members of a family
were concerned only with their own
needs. How quickly things would fall
apart!
In the story of the Good Samaritan,
we learn about someone who went
out of his way to care for the needs
of another. He recognized the victim
as his brother and accepted
responsibility for him. As a family, talk about the
responsibilities of each member of the family. Share how you,
as parents, care for the needs of everyone in the family even
when it's inconvenient. Ask your children to share times when
they did chores and helped the family even when it was not
convenient.
Read aloud this Sunday's Gospel, Luke 10:25-37. Talk about
how the Samaritan went out of his way to care for the needs of
the victim. Make a commitment as a family to follow the
example of the Good Samaritan. Explain that the more you
learn to accept responsibility for each other's needs at home, the
more you'll be able to accept responsibility for the needs of
others in the world.
SUPPORT OUR PARISH
Several weeks ago, Moyer Indoor/Outdoor Services initiated
an incentive program whereby they would make a contribution
to churches based on the amount of fuel oil purchased by the
church members for as long as they remain a customer of
Moyer's.
Some of our parishioners, who purchase oil from Moyer, have
already signed up for this program. If you're a Moyer
customer, why not join them? Your participation would
benefit Corpus Christi Parish. For details, call Bill Jurer at
Summer Recycling
Although school is now out and we’re heading
into the summer, don’t forget to keep bringing
your old newspapers, magazines etc. to our
paper recycling bins in the back of the school
parking lot. Paper recycling is a year round
event. Since its inception, Corpus Christi Parish
has earned $9,885 from this program, so by continuing to use
our bins for recycling, you’re not only helping the environment,
but you’re also supporting your parish and for this we thank
you very much.
Summer Projects
This summer we will have air-conditioning installed in our first
floor classrooms. This will complete the air-conditioning of our
older school building with the second floor having been done
last year. Also, this summer on the first floor in school, we will
be installing a new epoxy floor. The second floor will be
scheduled for next year. Both the air-conditioning and floor
projects are being funded with part of the parish portion of our
Heritage of Faith contributions. We are grateful to all who have
met or still are meeting, their pledges of the campaign. Our
parish is truly benefitting from your generosity.
Youth News
STEUBENVILLE: IT’S A WRAP!!!
On the weekend of June 28th-June 30th, 17 teens from Corpus
Christi Parish went to the Steubenville Youth Conference at
Franciscan University. The weekend started off with a BANG
as thunder and lighting filled the air, but it really could be
compared to God and His angels coming to open the hearts of
our teens. This weekend allowed the teens to find themselves as
sons and daughters of God, opportunities for Adoration and
Confession as well as time to hear talks about releasing
ourselves from sin, true manhood and womanhood. Truly this
was one of the most powerful conferences we have ever
attended and we pray that you or your teens will join us next
summer! The youth ministry program would like to thank you
for all the prayers and support! Check out the video of the trip
