PASTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear Parishioners,
People of Biblical time easily related to the words like vine, branches, grapes, and wine which Jesus used when He
spoke of the identity and mission of His disciples. With the popularity of wine in recent decades, most Americans today are
familiar with vineyards and wine-tasting.
During the Last Supper Jesus used the image of the “vine and branches” to show His disciples for all of time, the life
one can have with the Risen Lord Who lives forever. Like a vine, Jesus is the source of life and of fruitfulness. He repeatedly
forewarns all disciples that they must abide with Him in order to bear fruit. To “bear fruit” for disciples, means to extend
Jesus’ love to all the branches and to the world, drawing all into a communion of love and life with the Father through the Son
and in the Holy Spirit.
In today’s second reading, John gives us a glimpse of the first Christian communities sixty years after Jesus. They
believed and became dynamic witnesses of their life in the risen Lord. John tells us that by their abiding in Jesus they have
borne fruit. They did what was pleasing in His sight. They kept His command, “Love one another as I have loved you.” The
life and mission of the Church then, and for over two millennia, depends entirely on our abiding in the risen Christ.
“Abide in Me and I in you.” is the communion of life and love in the risen Lord that unites us as members in the body
of Christ. In this living and life-giving communion, we no longer belong to ourselves, but are the Lord’s.
Grafted on to the one vine, Christ, we are brought to life in the vine. Like branches who derive life
from the vine, we, too, are expected to produce fruit. This is an essential demand for thou who
abide with the Lord and His Church. Jesus specified, at the Last Supper, what bearing fruit meant.
The mission of His members – the Church – is to live in His love and keep His commandments.
He said, “This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you.”
Our own life and mission, as a branch on the vine and as a member of Jesus and His Church, is vital
and effective to the degree of our abiding in Jesus. This communion with the vine and the many
branches is not automatic. Our abiding communion in Jesus’ love and life has no limits. It must
be expanded and perfected. How is this done? Jesus tells us that when we accent His words, we
are pruned, cleansed, and transformed. Jesus gives us an absolute guarantee: “Whoever remains
in Me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.”

First Reading: Acts 9:26-31 Paul is accepted by the apostles
at Jerusalem.

Second Reading: I John 3:18-24 God commands us to believe
in Jesus Christ and to love one another.
Gospel: John 15:1-8 Jesus compares Himself to a vine, and
compares His Father to the vine-grower. He explains how God
prunes the barren branches so that the rest might yield more
fruit. He reminds them that apart from Himself, His followers
could not bear fruit.
Family Connection
The goal of our life of prayer is to
increase our awareness that Jesus
lives with us always. Prayer is
more than a dialogue with God;
prayer is a lifting of our minds and
hearts to God so that God might
dwell and act within us and through
us. The pinnacle of our life of
prayer is our communion with
Jesus in the Eucharist. Through this
sacrament, we receive Jesus
Himself, and He remains with us.
Our life of prayer and our union
with Jesus will lead us to fruitful
service to others.
Place a plant in your gathering space. Invite everyone to look
at the plant, noting the connection between the plant and its
leaves. Talk about the integral connection between all the parts
of a healthy plant. Introduce today's Gospel by saying that Jesus
talked about His relationship to His disciples using this
metaphor. Read today's Gospel, John 15:1-8. Talk about the
ways in which we are invited to relate to Jesus as His disciples
today—prayer, Scripture, the Eucharist, and so on. When we do
these things, Jesus promises to remain with us and to lead us to
serve others well. Pray together that we will continue to be
attentive and open to Jesus as He works in our lives today. Pray
together the Acts of Faith, Hope, and Love.

Faith Together) program at St. Stanislaus Parish Center on

as Mother and Wife. Using Mary as a model for living through
the major events in our lives, Mrs. Lewis will direct us to Mary,
seeing her first through the events in her life, and then to the

Anne is a Professor at DeSales University, where she has
directed plays through their Act One program. She serves as a
cantor at St. Stanislaus. There is no fee to attend and

Why is registering important?
Registering for an Adult Faith Formation event helps us to be
better prepared to meet the needs of those in attendance. It also
provides a way for us to reach you in case the event has been
cancelled due to inclement weather or other unforeseen
circumstances. If you are unable to register, please know that
you are still always welcome to attend the event.

If the North Penn School District is CLOSED or has a delayed
opening due to inclement weather, the scheduled Adult Faith
Formation programs for that morning and afternoon are
automatically cancelled.
Mothers of Children with Disabilities Retreat: Tuesday,
May 8, 2012 at Malvern Retreat House, Fr. Dennis O'Donnell
will direct a retreat for mothers who are raising children with
disabilities and also those who have adult children with

This evening of reflection focuses on the spirituality and
vocation of the single life and is intended for individuals of any
age who are single by choice or by circumstance. The evening
includes dinner, a spiritual conference, Eucharistic Adoration,
opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and
Benediction. Our guest speaker is Beth M. Knobbe, author of
Party of One: Living Single with Faith, Purpose, & Passion.
Books by the author will be available for purchase and signing.

a personal and caring way. Our volunteers endeavor to reach
out to the elderly, the sick and homebound. They do errands,
drive to doctor’s appointments, send messages of condolences
and get well wishes and much more. Helping other people in a
time of need promotes a real sense of community in our parish.

CASSEROLE PROJECT
PLEASE BE SURE TO MARK THE CONTENTS AND DATE
YOUR CASSEROLE WAS PREPARED ON THE COVER OF
THE CASSEROLE. Casseroles for St John's Hospice will be
picked up Thursday, May 10th. Pick-up day is always the
second Thursday of the month. Each day St. John's provides
between 500 and 700 meals to the homeless. Won't you help
with this project by taking a pan and filling it with a recipe of
your choice? The recipe should have a meat, poultry, or fish
base. Please use only the pans that are provided by St John's
and are available on the tables with the burgundy covers in the
narthex of the church. They are also available in the gray garage
next to the freezers. Do not overfill the pans. Please bring your
solidly frozen casseroles to the three-bay gray garage near the
convent by Wednesday, May 9th. The truck has been arriving
very early on the second Thursday. Be sure that the freezers are
turned on before leaving your casserole. If you have any

advocacy organization in the United States for

MONTHLY FOOD COLLECTION
The monthly food collection for local
food cupboards takes place next
weekend, May 12th and 13th, after all the
Masses. Please leave your donations of
non-perishable goods in the room next to the
restrooms in the back of church. This room is open after all the
Masses. We are always in need of drivers to take the monthly
collection to the Patrician Society in Norristown. Interested

High School/Middle School Youth Group
High School Youth: All 9th-12th grade teens are invited to
join the youth group for our weekly meeting every Sunday
night from 7pm-9pm in the RE Room. The night will include,

SCRIP CORNER
COME ‘N GET IT. . . FREE MONEY!!!
The SCRIP program consists of many different “gift
cards/certificates” that Corpus Christi is able to purchase at a
discount. The SCRIP office sells them to you at face value, so
you are not paying any more money than you would be paying
at the store. You will have an account set up in our computer
system that records your purchases and accumulates a credit for
you to use for tuition or REC fees at ANY Catholic grade
school, high school or college at ANY time.
You can accumulate credits for years before you use them, so
if you just had a baby and are not even thinking about school
yet, you can start using this program to accumulate credits so
that when the time comes, you will be ready! Or you can
surprise your children and start an account now and when that
first grandchild goes to school you might be able to cover their
first tuition payment for them. What a gift…and it costs you
NOTHING!

preparation for a performance on June 29th which will be open

BAPTISM INSTRUCTION SESSIONS: Parents and
Godparents must attend Pre-Jordan Sacramental
Preparation before the Baptism takes place. Prior to
attendance, parents are required to pre-register those
attending the session by contacting the Parish Center
Office, 215-855-1311.
Although instruction sessions are mandatory for both Parents
and Godparents, you are required to attend one time only. If
you have attended previously you are not required to come
again. Ideally, attendance at the preparation session should
occur before the child’s birth. Upcoming sessions are
scheduled in the RE Room (in the church), at 7:00 PM on
the 3rd Monday of the month:
May 21st and June 18th.
REQUIREMENTS FOR GODPARENTS
must be a registered member of a Catholic Parish
and receive a Certificate of Eligibility from that
Parish and have attended the Pre-Jordan Baptism
class
must have completed his/her 16th birthday
must have been Baptized - Confirmed - and has
received First Holy Communion - and actively
practicing their faith - e.g., attending Mass, receiving
Holy Communion - receiving the Sacrament of
Penance
if married - must be living in a valid sacramental
marriage
cannot be the parent of the child to be baptized
the godparents are to be one male and one female
one godparent may be a non-Catholic Christian
witness with proper proof of his/her baptism — if a
non-Catholic is asked to be a Christian witness - the
other godparent MUST be Catholic
a person who has left the Catholic Faith for any
reason, may not be asked to carry out this
responsibility
Please note: The paperwork for the child’s baptism and
certificates of eligibility MUST be completed at least two
weeks prior to scheduling a baptism date. Certificates of
eligibility must have a parish seal and cannot be faxed; they
must be the original.
Baptism is administered at 12:30PM Every Sunday.

main Church is closed after the 7:15 Mass each morning.

months prior to the marriage and attend a Pre-Cana session.
NOVENA DEVOTIONS: Devotions honoring the
Immaculate Heart of Mary are offered on the 2nd and 4th
Wednesday of the month, and devotions to honor St. Peregrine,
Patron Saint of Cancer Patients, are offered on the 1st and 3rd
Wednesday of the month, at 6:30PM in the Chapel. All are
