A series of leaching tests of ore
samples of Banduhurang mine
collected from different depth were
carried out to optimize the
parameters of conventional acid
leaching through extensive analysis
of ore samples, leached residues and
leach liquor.
Whole rock analysis of uranium ore
of Bagjata ore was determined.
Variation of leachability of ore of
Narwpahar was observed under
different pH and temperature
condition.
Study on effect of oxidants was
carried out by conducting leaching
tests using different oxidants
pyrolusite, Potassium Permanganate
and Hydrogen Peroxide.
2. Benefits derived as a result of the above
R&D work:
a) The data generated on lab scale and
pilot scale provided the thrust for
better recovery of uranium from
Banduhurang uranium ore.
b) Studies on water dissolution of
uranium and other elements from
Tummalapalle uranium ore have
great significance to plan
environmental management system.
3. Future Plan of Action:
a) Planning has been made to conduct
the detail studies on Tummalapalle
Uranium ore and confirming the
batch scale data of pilot plant by
using continuous leach reactor.
b) Solvent extraction and ion exchange
studies on purification and
concentration of uranium leach
liquors.
c) Study on various raw materials to
optimize its use and to find out new
substitutes.
d) Monitoring the plant to improve the
efficiency at every stage.
e) Development of modified analytical
procedures for the analysis of
uranium and other elements.
4. Expenditure on R&D:
(a) Capital Rs. 42.78 lakh
(b) Revenue Rs. 122.19 lakh
Total Rs. 164.97 lakh
5. Technology Absorption, Adaptation and
Innovation:
The company has taken steps in the field of
uranium mining and milling to absorb latest
available technology to improve productivity
and making the operations more cost
effective. Some of them are –
(a) Future machines with digital
technologies are generally selected for
reducing the power consumption.

The spares for the energy efficient
imported machines are under
development by indigenous suppliers.
Introduction of long hole/extension
drilling using Drill Jumbo for
exploration of ore body.
Introduction of mechanized roof
bolting using ‘Boltec (drill & bolting
