The junior accuracy took Place over four rounds and it was obvious from the start that the teams would have their work cut out to get anywhere near the disc. High winds and a tricky topdrift made it difficult to despatch the jumpers over the desired "spot" and some poor times were record - ed. The overall result hinged on the last jump and Mark Bowman landed 10m away from the disc to give Wits the gold and the tophy which tiey had also won iast year. In the last round of the senior RW event ,both Wits teams put in creditable performances,but it was Wits A who emerged as the winners by three points taking the SAU with 84 points.Wits B finished second with 8l points and Natal third with 67 points. Doug Smart, Chris Joubert, Cameron Condie and lvan Coural earned their Protea colours. The overall winners of the meet were Wits fittr a first and second in the senior event and a first in the junior event.

In the course of their programme Wits scored twenty goals and conceded on-ly two. Their results were as follows: Wits vs RAU 8-0 Wits vs Durban 5-1 Wits vs PMB )-l Wits VS Rhodes 3-0 Wits vs PE 4-0 Wits vs UCT (final) 2-0 The leading individual goal scorers were Marc Bals. Kevin Goldrick and Robert Kosseff. These three, along with Franco Monzeglio, Hugh Melamdowitz, Evan Speechley (captain), Gary Felsher and Ronald Raad were chosen for the hotea side. Kevin Goldrick was named the outstanding player of the tournament. Runner-up for this award was team-mate Marc Bals. Derek Biancksee and Jimmy Backos were named as coach and manager of fhe SAU side respectively and aiso as chairperson and secretary of the Intervanitv Soccer Associafion. Winning run Wits finished second in the intervarsity cross country at Grahar-nstown, The course was a most interesting one and fully tested the runners. South African champion and Wits student , Mark Plaatjes showed his immsilss class to finish first, one minute and six seconds ahead of a shong field. The next Witsie home was Randy L,eisegang who came in seventh with Glen Wearne finishing ninth. Wits trailed Stelienbosch bY seven points in the final tabie with Natal in third place. In the road relay the following day Wits finished third. Clash of swords The Wits women fencers were placed first in the SAU Fencing Tournament . Leading the women to victory was Pam Matthews who was frst in both the foil and ePee sections. Her team-mate Dean van Rensburg gained a creditable fourth piace in each of these events. Both women were awarded Protea coloun. As is often the case the men were less successful. Graeme Wald most the best Wits male fencer. He was first in the foil sectior and third in both sabre and epee sections. Graeme was awarded the "Best Man at Arms" award and Protea colours.The wits men finished third and the Wtts team (women and men) was also Placed third' The men's section was keenly contest with Wits finishing thrid behind strong Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg combinations.
