Mass. Parents are required to attend a baptismal preparation
class in advance. Please call the parish office to schedule.
Marriages - Weddings are scheduled at least six months in
advance. Please call the parish office to schedule a meeting with
the pastor.
Prayer Requests can be made by calling the office or on the
website. Any requests received by noon on Tuesday will be in
the following weekend’s bulletin.
Mass Intention Requests can be made by calling the office.
Intentions can be for the souls of the deceased, the special needs
of the living, in thanksgiving for answered prayers or even in
remembrance of a special occasion. The suggested stipend for a
Mass is $5, but any amount can be offered.

Thought to ponder:
This strident campaign to
redefine marriage will only
become more intense in the
next few years.
Catholics will be increasingly
labeled as bigots and hate
mongers. And so we will face a choice: will we be bullied by
such accusations, and remain silent about what our faith and
reason tell us, or will we learn how clearly to articulate and
defend marriage in the public square? Our Faith is being
challenged daily. We must pray to remain strong in living
God’s way.
Our Response: God’s law came first. Man cannot bind
another to a law which is against Divine law. Let us pray for
the courage of martyrs, that we may follow Christ, and
witness to His power to overcome the powers of darkness
that are bent on destroying the human family and the moral
law.
Adult Education
Rosary Walk—Please join us each Monday morning as we
pray the Rosary while walking the paths of Greenville’s St.
Mary’s Cemetery. We gather at the cemetery at 9:15 am and
would love to have you join us! Travel east on Russ Rd., left
on St. Rt. 121 about ½ mile. We meet after Mass. We will
not meet in the event of inclement weather. For more

welcome at the Youth House following Morning Mass and

Christian believers and inquirers into the Faith. Fr. Dulles
came to the Catholic Church as a young adult. “Everything
in my life since that time has confirmed the rightness of that

St. Mary’s School
School’s out for the summer!!! Mr. Rosenbeck will be in his
office at the school during the summer months. You can
call for an appointment if you need to meet with him.

Bingo! Bingo is played at Paws Bingo Hall (across from the
Dairy Queen) every Wednesday and Thursday. Early Bird
begins @ 6:30 PM and regular bingo @ 7 PM. The proceeds
from bingo benefit the Darke County Humane Society and
the children at St. Mary’s School through scholarships.

Rosary Altar Society
The Rosary Altar Society is
looking for items to include in
our large raffle for the bazaar in
November. If there is anyone
in the parish who would like to
donate bigger priced items or
you have a business and would like to donate an item or a
gift certificate, please call Regina Schieltz at 548-1924 or
Cheryl Leugers at 548-9342. Smaller gift certificates for a
certificate tree would also be appreciated. We would like to
have prizes by the end of August.
Rosary Ladies are still looking for someone to head or cochair
the Cinnamon Rolls for the bazaar. Please call the

August craft dates are Aug. 7 and 28. 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

“Shower of Supplies” for St. Mary’s School. It will begin

On August 9th, anyone wanting to car pool to Maria Stein
for the Fatima Mass, can meet at the St. Mary's School

Mary’s Helpers
Mary’s helpers meet the 2 nd Tuesday of every month at the
library (3 rd floor) at 10:00 am. We are currently seeking a cochair
and captain for our Caring Cooks program. If you
would like to be a Mary’s helper or just want more info on
this ministry, please call Barb at the rectory at 548-1616. Our
next meeting is August 13 at 10:00 am. Please join us!

Around the Area
Save the date for the annual men's and women's
conferences coming up this fall. The women's conference,
"Women Defending the Faith" will be held Sept. 21, while
the men's conference, "Men Defending the Faith" will be
held on Oct.26. Both conferences will be held at St. Charles
Seminary. Additional information will follow at a later date.
Clothing Donations Needed
Grace Resurrection Community
Center’s (GRCC) Clothing Bank
will be closed the week of August 18-
24 in order to move out summer clothes
and bring in fall clothes. We can use your
help! If you wish to volunteer, please call
GRCC at 548-2595 to find out the schedule. Another way
you can help is to do a clothing drive. We are particularly
asking for school clothes for children of all ages. We need
short sleeve shirts, jeans, undergarments, socks, shoes, lightweight
jackets, etc. Call us at 548-2595 to arrange a time for
you to deliver the clothes.

STATEMENT ON SUPREME
COURT DECISIONS
Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr made the
following statement about the U.S. Supreme Court
decisions of June 26, 2013.
The Supreme Court’s decision striking down the Defense of
Marriage Act is deeply disappointing. It means that the
federal law government will recognize same-sex “marriages”
in states that provide for it, extending spousal benefits to the
couples involved.
Importantly, however, the Court did not hold that the
Constitution requires states to recognize same-sex
“marriages,” thus redefining marriage. Neither the DOMA
ruling nor the Court’s refusal to consider California’s
Proposition 8 means that Ohio and 31 other states with
provisions in their constitutions barring same-sex “marriage”
will have to change. Nor should they.
Traditional marriage, the union of one man and one woman
for life, is the cradle of the family, which is the basic building
block of society. Not every married couple has children, but
every child has a mother and father. Both parents are
important, and they are not interchangeable. As a society we
should be working to improve the chances that children are
raised by both parents, together. That is not unjust
discrimination against homosexuals. The Church teaches
that all people, regardless of their family make-up, deserve
God’s love and mercy according to the Gospel. The Church
teaches that marriage is between two individuals, one male
and one female.
The Church is not trying to enshrine her theology of
marriage into secular law, however. Rather, the Church seeks
to uphold the understanding of marriage that has been
shared for thousands of years by virtually all cultures until
just recently. Traditional marriage, it must be admitted, is an
institution under stress in today’s world. We should redouble
our efforts to support it, not redefine it.
