ing reticles, allow for the change in
The scope also coml!s with precision
digital windage and elevation adjustments
and a MIL-STD-1913Picatinny
Rail quick-reh~ase mount. The
multipurpose ThOR-320 can also be
converted into a compact, handheld
viewer by removing the mount and
adding a hand-strap (included).
Best news may be the drop in price
from $6,599 to $6,199 for the 60hz
model or $5699for the 30hz model.
FUR, the giant in thermal
cameras, brings hand-helds into
contemporary heat with their latest
Scout model. The compact, lightweight
FUR Scout PS32 provides
clear, crisp thermal imagery from
dawn to dusk and through the
dead of night. Its two-power magnification,
one-hand. operation features
only 4 buttons for full:control: power,
polarity, zoom, and LCD brightness.
Like all FUR thermal products, the
Scout PS32 creates images from heat,
not light, giving you a tactical advantage
out in the wild. While the PS32is
actually a thermal viewer, not a thermal
camera, you can navigate rough
terrain to scope out the "perfect spot"
at dusk, before dawn and even when
it's pitch black outside. You can discover
nocturnal animals, find wandering
members of your party, locate
lost livestock, or spot downed game.
It can spot man-size targets out to
500 yards. The Scout, says FUR, can
be used to help see through light fog,
smoke, or trail dust and "check out
things that go bump in the night."
Weight is only 12 ounces; but remember,
it's a thermal viewer, not
a thermal rifle scope. That changes
some things dramatically besides
just the weight. While a "camera" in
theory, the Scout does not, according
to FUR, capture images, either still or
video.·It operates on a Li-ion battery
" that, under"normal" use-whatever
that is, depending on the operatorlasts
five hours. As users of various
electronic devices know, Li-ion power
can differ widely and, just when you
think you have plenty of juice left,
your device shuts down.
To overcome the problem, simple
recharging at home is the convenient
answer. In the field, however, where
AC power is unavailable, we suggest
hooking the FUR
Scout up to Brunton's
Impel portable power
charger (www.brzmtongroup.com).
What this
pairing amounts to is
that the Impel, which
weighs a bit more than
2% pounds, has to be
charged in a 120v wall
outlet or via one of Brunton's
Solaris solar panels
using USBports and cables.
The Solaris panels
FUR Scout with Brunton's Impel
and left, elk seen with FUR
are roll-up panels re-charged outdoors
by the sun.
The beauty of this two-product
pairing is that the package is small
enough and light-weight enough to be
carried in a backpack during a deep
forest elk hunt. From a base camp or
spot camp at night or at dawn, elk can
be seen moving regardless of snow,
fog, or any other environmental element
that cancels out pure sports
optics ..
SHOT's Media Day.
Like the biggest roller coasters
that attract attention when they roar
past with another load of screaming
riders, the Slide Fire bay makes everyone
look over curiously as someone
lets another load of lead fly downrange.
The question on everyone's
mind is the same: "Is that a machine
gun over there, or what?"
The Slide Fire stocks replace an
AR's or AK's regular stock and pistol
grip with a unit that allows the shooter
to bump fire the gun easily and accurately
in a manner that is certain
to please ammunition manufacturers.
