Directory of Accessible Building Products
Advertisement Guidelines for 2007
The NAHB Research Center reserves the right to edit all copy and materials submitted for clarity and
readability. The Research Center is able to publish and disseminate the Directory of Accessible Building
Products (DABP) with the sponsorship of individual listing manufacturers, the NAHB 50+ Housing Council,
the NAHB Remodelors Council, and corporate sponsor Lowe’s.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION BELOW CAREFULLY.
Ad Sizes
Copy
Full Page Ad* 7.25” x 9.5”
Half Page Ad 7.25” x 4.625”
(* Companies with multiple full-page listings should indicate preference for facing pages if
applicable.)
Some basic guidelines for copy content (can be used as a checklist prior to submitting artwork):
Do:
Write in terms that are readily understood by
non-technical readers as DABP usage
spans all skill levels, from do-it-yourselfers
to practicing architects
Explain the attributes that make your
product distinct and practical for accessible
applications
State the audience for which your product is
designed (e.g., people with arthritis)
Mention installation requirements and/or
restrictions
Include corporate name, logo, address,
phone number, website and/or any other
relevant contact information

Do Not:
Refer to listed products in the first person
(e.g., “my” or “our” product) as there will be
many manufacturers listed within the DABP
Make claims that your product(s) is superior
to other products
Make claims about energy efficiency,
compliance with standards, or uniqueness in
the marketplace that cannot be proven by
an independent, third-party test
Make ambiguous claims about product
performance that may be misconstrued
Format
• All ad copy should be at least 12-point type to ensure greater readability for DABP users. The
NAHB Research Center will use 12-point Garamond typeface for all text in the introduction,
table of contents, appendices, references, and header/footers.
• All DABP ads are black and white.
• The DABP will be produced using QuarkXPress (Version 6.5 Mac). If you do not have access
to Quark, you can submit ads as .tif, .psd, .eps, or print-ready pdf files. We can also accept
Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS2 files. Send all art to Robert Hayes at rhayes@nahbrc.org.
• If you would like the NAHB Research Center to create your ad, please submit finalized text, a
general concept of the layout you would like, and the images (at least 600 dpi) as separate files
to Robert Hayes at rhayes@nahbrc.org.
• All manufacturer names and phone numbers are included in an Index of Companies Listed.
With your artwork submission, please provide the phone number to be used in the Index.
• All ads require approval of the listing manufacturer before publication.
• Once completed, the DABP will be available for download in PDF format on both the NAHB
Research Center’s website (www.nahbrc.org) and the ToolBase Services website
(www.toolbase.org).
Page Margins
There will be an index header on either the top left or right side of each page, as well as a footer with
page number at either the bottom left or right of each page. Margins of an 8½ x 11-inch page should allow
for the headers and footers (.5" for top, bottom, and outside; .75" for spine).
