Student competitions<br />

How <strong>the</strong> game works<br />

SCHUL/BANKER takes place every academic<br />

year and is played over two rounds – a<br />

group stage and <strong>the</strong> final. The group stage<br />

is played online from November to February.<br />

Each team plays on one of 20 virtual<br />

markets. Six virtual business years are<br />

covered. Each business year <strong>the</strong> teams<br />

make a series of decisions and send <strong>the</strong>m<br />

to <strong>the</strong> organisers of <strong>the</strong> game. These<br />

analyse <strong>the</strong> markets and send <strong>the</strong> teams<br />

detailed reports explaining what shape<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir bank is in. Armed with this in<strong>for</strong>mation,<br />

<strong>the</strong> teams <strong>the</strong>n plan <strong>the</strong>ir decisions <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

next business year.<br />

The winners of <strong>the</strong> 20 markets are invited<br />

to <strong>the</strong> final, which is held over three days<br />

in spring. This is followed by a prize-giving<br />

ceremony, in which <strong>the</strong> three best SCHUL/<br />

BANKER teams are awarded prizes.<br />

Prizes<br />

– All players from <strong>the</strong> group stage receive a<br />

certificate and a non-cash prize.<br />

– The three best SCHUL/BANKER teams win<br />

non-cash prizes <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> players and cash<br />

prizes <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir schools.<br />

1 st prize €5,000<br />

2 st prize €4,000<br />

3 st prize €3,000<br />

Registration<br />

Registration begins on 1 April every year.<br />

The deadline <strong>for</strong> registration is 30 September.<br />

Support<br />

The players receive extensive support throughout <strong>the</strong> competition.<br />

All <strong>the</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation and material <strong>the</strong>y need <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> game is available<br />

on www.schulbanker.de. Teachers are also given additional guidance<br />

on how to integrate <strong>the</strong> game into <strong>the</strong>ir lessons. On top of this<br />

<strong>the</strong>re is an e-mail service and free telephone hotline to <strong>the</strong> game<br />

organisers. So <strong>the</strong>re is always someone available to assist <strong>the</strong><br />

players if necessary.<br />
